… for a mommy meltdown.
My babies started school today.
Suddenly vanished are the memories of endless lunch hours, the overflowing laundry basket, the fact that I can get no.thing. done.
I just want my babies to stay home a little longer.
Suddenly, they look so tiny. And big. Has it already been a year?
But too little to be facing this new school all alone. Too little to be riding the bus. Too little to be away from me all day, five days a week.
They’re nervous. And tired. They’re not used to waking up before 7:00. I’m not used to waking before 7:00.
I can see the anxiety on their faces. Anxiety mixed with excitement and anticipation, wondering what the day will hold.
And my stomach churns wanting to soothe all their worries away.
I pray for them: to make wonderful friends, and to have gentle and kind-hearted teachers.
I pray for them to model good behavior: to be kind, to be polite, to work hard, to be generous.
And I pray for me: to swallow the goose-egg in my throat and remember that they are only mine for a short time, entrusted to me by Him.
And to enjoy every second He allows me the honor of being their mother.
I’m off to drop Sophie off at her first day of kindergarten. She’ll be in the afternoon class, right next door to Isabelle’s Pre-K (which doesn’t start until tomorrow, PTL.)
Lord help me, my mascara isn’t waterproof.

Awww, Stefanie… Bittersweet isn't it? Ours go back in a week and I am already crying and wishing for just one more week of summer.

I can totally relate. I cry every year when they leave for that first day. So sad.
BTW, I am lovin' the before & after posts. Makes me want to redo something.

*Sob* I seem to be crying at the drop of a hat this week. But you are right (wiping eyes)… she is her own little person, only entrusted to my care for a short time. *Sob*

Oh Stephanie I am praying for you and for the kiddos. New town, new friends, new time away from mommy and vice versa. We sent our oldest off to public school this year and I feel like part of me is missing. He has been home 11 years so I completely understand. Good thing you got those two cutie patootie young 'uns to keep you busy ๐

That's a lot of stuff going on in one house in one week, girl! Let yourself melt down. Have a good old fashioned cry. Hand TongguMomma a tissue while you're at it. And go make yourself an iced coffee or some such treat. It'll cure what ails ya. ๐
My middle two start at their bricks and mortar school next week (barring a rumored strike!). The oldest two started on-line charter schools yesterday and today. So far so good, all things considered.
And Li'l Empress is just happy to have all her royal subjects still around and hers to command.

awwwwww…sniff sniff. And I didn't even call you today so you could cry about it.. I mean so we could talk about how cool our kids are, and how fun it must be for them to go back to a new school and meet new friends. sniff sniff. WAHHHHHHHHHHH! Please tell me Chris reloaded your emergency candy bar supply. If not.. girl, I will have a shipment out to you ASAP. Ummm…that is whatever is left to ship after I have my way with it.. gotta keep it real, yo! I shipped 4 off to school. One to Kindergarten for the first time. On a BIG bus.. with a BIG BACKPACK! sniff sniff…. WAHHHHHHHH! Do you think it is wrong to homeschool the other 4, just cause I will miss them. They are young, they haven't been to school yet, they don't know what they are missing. except maybe Sam will talk up school when he gets home, and tell them stories of recess, and cubbies, and story time. hmmmm… gots to come up with a new plan.

It is bittersweet when they go off to school. It always brought on such mixed emotions. They just seem to grow up too fast.
Praying that they have a great 1st day and school year!
