Happy New Year.
We decided to ring in the new year with some seriously exciting stuff.
Lots and lots of hanging out in our jammies.
Playing the insanely fun “Killer Bunnies” game.
And eating ridiculous amounts of leftovers.
We also managed to squeeze in some beauty shop time.
Isabelle has been dying to get her hair cut. Short.
I’ve resisted because, well, I think her hair is beautiful.
But she was relentless and is, obviously, exceedingly persuasive.
So, with Tori’s assistance, we decided to give her the ‘home cut’.
She’s the perfect candidate for such a *cut* because:
She’s 5. And can’t tell a good cut from a bad cut.
She was so excited, I could have used a hedge trimmer and she’d have been happy with the results.
That and all the leftovers.
Jill says
Stefanie…Isabelle's hair is BEAUTIFUL… the shorter cut makes her look older. Madeleine is begging me to cut her hair to shoulder length and I am afraid I MUST let her do it. She is persistent and I have NO GOOD REASON not to let her!

Her hair looks beautiful. I think spending New Years in your pj's is the way to go(that is what I did)!
Holly says
That is super short to you??
Funny how we have different ideas and perspectives. π
She's a beauty…bald…it wouldn't matter! π
I LOVE home hair cuts. I LOVE saving money!!!
Enjoy that jammies time…it's about over you know.
You can't wear Jammies to China. Well, you could in theory, but…
π
Karin says
She looks adorable!! New Years in your pj's sounds like lots of fun! Wish I would have thought of that. π (Although I did get to go to Target with my hubby BY OURSELVES, so that was worth getting dressed.)
Karin says
Holly…if you live in Shanghai, you can wear your jammies anywhere. I'm just sayin…
Stephanie says
Better for you to relent and cut it than have her relent and cut it…by herself! I already learned that tough lesson with my 5 yr old little lady about 6 months ago and we're still dealin' with the damage:)She's in love with the Korean girl group the Wonder Girls and their bangs and thought she'd go that route last summer by herself in the bathroom. Isabelle is a beauty no matter what. What a super cool New Years memory!
Patricia/NYC says
Oh my gosh…Isabelle looks BEAUTIFUL with her new 'do! Actually, she looked pretty darn BEAUTIFUL with her old 'do too! π
Your New Year's Day sounded a lot like ours…hangin' out, jammies & leftovers! π
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Coming from a hairdresser of 18 years….I can say that you are both brave and….not too bad. It looks really cute….shhhh, you didn't hear me admit that. π

Too cute!!! Isabelle looks soooo happy. Then again, she always looks happy. She is such a sweet child!
Debby says
If she's anything like my daughter, it will look cute short & in 6 months it will be long again & be just as cute then too.
Happy New Year!
Julie says
Precious, precious hair cut on a beautiful girl!

Great job! She looks adorable!!
On another note – I took your advise on your "Best Toy" list and purchased a Leapster 2 for my daughter for Christmas. She loves it and so do I. Great educational games! Thanks for the suggestions!
Football & Fried Rice says
Oh, man! That is big stuff. I love how Sophie didn't really care that Isabelle was getting her hair cut – she just wanted to see what level she was on on whatever Leapster game she was playing π And clearly, Sophie was not convinced to cut her hair off too π
It's super cute! Both of your girls have "good" hair – so it looks good either short or long. Some of have such think hair it just looks worse, the longer it gets!
And we LOVE home hair cuts!!
Jean says
You're giving me ideas! Both girls need a trim- why not do beauty shop at home!!
I love Isabelle's haircut! Good job!
Sounds like a fun day! A great way to bring in the New Year!

Dear Stefanie,
I'm new to your blog thanks to Dorothy and Keith Callahan. We were in the same travel group in April 2007 traveling to China to bring our beautiful girls home. The Callahans have just returned from China with their second Asian Angel.
I have also just purchased a Wild Olive Tee for my sister for Christmas…"Beauty from Ashes." It is blessing her in the ways that I prayed it would.
Thank you for opening your life and sharing the story God is writing in you and in your family. What a blessing it continues to be to this reader.
I know you're the expert on traveling to China…but since you asked for some new tips, I thought I'd share some things that came in very handy for this first-time momma.
1) Catherine (my daughter) loved the Stacking Cups I brought. They were great for playing with on the bed, in the tub, on the plane, everywhere.
2) Bubbles were a hit.
3) I took an inflatable Beach Ball. Cate loved it! And, it was light and easy to pack.
4) I took a "Hip Hammock" to carry Cate. (I think Playtex makes it…can't remember and I just gave it to some friends who went to bring their baby home from China) Anyway…what I loved about it was that Cate could sit very comfortably in the little sling/seat on my hip. She could be right next to me; she could see my face and she could look around. When she would fall asleep, it was very easy to cradle her. Also, if I needed my hands to be free to pay for something, pick something up, etc., they were and Cate was still snug and secure.
5)A friend of mine created cards with Scriptures for me to open each day of the trip. I still have those cards. You may want to ask your friends and family to take index cards and write down some Scriptures that they will be praying for you and Vivi for you to open each day.
Again, thank you for sharing your story.
Praying for you and for Vivi and your family.
Grace and Peace,
Suzanne

Ha! M will be thrilled to see these pictures! The week of Christmas she insisted she wanted her long hair cut to above her shoulders – very similar to Isabelles but shorter. She loves it. She was so happy. She just decided one day after seeing a classmates hair that long braids just weren't the bee's knees anylonger – 5 year olds. they get to change thier minds. π

Way to go, Salon L!! You did a great job on her super cute haircut. I love it!
