Yesterday was school picture day for the kids.
Again.
Anyone else remember having your picture taken multiple times in one school year?
Not me. I remember one official day, where everyone wore their very best duds. And the picture people handed out combs to everyone in line.
I remember really needing one.
Truthfully, other than the confusion it brings when trying to determine which pictures were taken during what school year, I actually kinda like the twice a year thing. It gives my kids one more chance to actually look normal in a school picture.
Which a few of them seem to have a hard time doing.
This time, I asked the girls what they wanted to wear for their pictures, since I had no exciting options in mind. And, since it’s spring pictures but they can’t wear spring clothes for at least another month, I figured they might have some brilliant solution.
And they actually did. They asked to wear their Chinese silks.
Since I was running late yesterday, like I am every day, I didn’t have much time to get some good, well thought out pictures of the girls before they left for school.
In fact, I barely had time to brush their teeth and comb their hair.
But at least I got some pictures.
And I think their sweet smiles make up for my ineptness.
And my propensity for running late.

They look darling! Love their outfits. We discovered that ALL our silk dresses and such are TOO small. I need to invest in new as my kids enjoy them so much.
Our school ALSO does the fall AND spring school pics. I never had that either. Kinda nice.

What a great idea! I love the detail in the outfits! I don't recall seeing anything like that when we were in China! Where did you find them?
Stefanie says
Thanks, Stacy!
I got them in Guangzhou a few years ago, when I was there with my sister. I recommend buying the nicer ones at the Guangzhou mall (the ones on Shamian Island are mostly poor quality) if you want one to keep… these have lasted through two winters ๐

You call those not good pictures?? They are better than my pictures when I am at the top of my game with only ONE kid. lol You have beautiful children.

They look beautiful! Good for them wanting to wear their silks. My 9 and 10 year old nixed the silks this year (sob). The other girls still like to wear them for CNY. If I ever get to GZ again, I will have to go find some pretty silks at the mall. I agree that the ones on Shamian are poor quality–as in, uh…disposable. Are the ones from the mall hand washable?

Beautiful outfit choices! Your girls did good:) We do our fall pics each year in their Chinese silks. It's fun to go back and look through how much they've changed from year to year. Not fun to see how much my babies are growing up on me though!

I haven't tried to wash them yet. I'm really careful with them, and I'll be heartbroken if they get messed up… so until I HAVE to wash them, I'm not ๐

Stunning, โฅ that they chose to wear their silks. My girls are outgrowing theirs, time for new ones. Great pictures, rushed or not.

Those are some of the most beautiful silks I have ever seen. Will be keeping my eye out for ones like that in Hong Kong.

Those silks are just too sweet!! Oh and the girls in 'em…steal my very heart!
We do the twice a year thing too and it is not like I ever have my act together…but the spring one always comes out better, maybe because I am more ready for it!
Have a blessed day with those smiley happy children, coming here soothes my soul:)
