because I had a lime green bathroom. With bright brass fixtures. Because it is lime green no more.
I do still have the bright brass fixtures, though.
Haters to the left.
Anyhoo, since I’ve been blah-blah-blahing about all these DIY projects, I figured I’d share one with y’all.
This one my sweet sister tackled with me. I mean, who wants to paint in such cramped quarters with moi? And a boys’ bathroom?
She’s a saint as far as I’m concerned.
We started at about 9:00 AM and finished up about 13 hours later with some breaks for food, controlling the chaos and one significant middle-of-the-project paint color change (and resulting trip to Home Depot).
Considering we were the only 2 adults present, with 11 kids running wild, I think we did okay.
My boys love it. They *almost* shrieked like girls when we brought them in to see the final result. Then they flexed their muscles and grunted because all that black and grey made them feel so manly.
Made every stinky bit of it worthwhile.
Thanks, sis. I owe ya.
P.S. For anyone interested, we used Martha Stewart Cement on the walls. A yardstick, pencil and Frog Tape for all the taping (love this stuff) and some left behind semi-gloss black paint for the striping and cabinet. Total cost about $60.
P.P.S. Sorry about the iPhone pics. Didn’t feel like pulling out my big camera for before pics, but wishing now I had. The lime green was truly something to behold.

I love it. I don’t think I’d have the patience to plot it all out though. I painted striped curtains recently, that about did me in!

Amazing transformation. I need to paint stripes in a boys’ bedroom … ug … totally going to be using FROG tape though when I do!

Me thinks you have a stripe fetish. Aren’t you doing the boys room with stripe? Looks great

LOVE IT. I just read an article today that said brass is back in! So there you go. You are trendy without even trying to be!!!!

You can paint the brass fixtures. You or someone you know does need to be able to remove them and reinstall them. (I’m sure there is a video online showing how, but it is pretty easy with both plumbing and electrical.) You use a spray primer for multi surfaces and then a spray paint for metal. You just have to make sure you don’t fuse the moving parts on the mechanically functioning plumbing fixtures if you select to do those. (And I recently discovered after my teen daughter broke the handle off my kitchen faucet and I had to shut the water off to it, they have a beautiful selection of rather attractive fixtures for under $30 at the major home improvement stores.) When my dad built his last home rather quickly and on a very tight budget, he had them put in standard “builder brass” fixtures and we painted them to something more pleasing. A few of them he never replaced with more expensive fixtures when he was upgrading the interior. I keep scouring yard sales for an ugly brass chandelier to paint and put over my kitchen sink!

LOVE and frog tape is da bomb!! If they want more fun, we have used the granite looking contact paper to cover countertops and it works AMAZING!!

The amount of jealousy I feel right now is off the charts. You’re amazing. Plain and simple. Give all that to Jesus… and enjoy the gifts God’s given you! I tell you, you’re a talented, blessed woman.
