happy

tallulagifts-1

Recently, we had some deliveries. Addressed to Tallula. I held onto them til I could get my act together and get some pictures of her opening them. And finally, I did just that. I took her out on the porch and put her goodies in front of her. And Tallula was all over it. No instructions necessary. She was so focused. So determined. And so very, very happy. To my sweet friends who have blessed our girl with some goodies, thank you. From all of us. … [Read more...]

tallula. one month and two days.

tallula1month-1

One month ago and two days ago (this is becoming a theme, isn't it? not at all on purpose, I guess I'm just always a few days late? and if one day late is a dollar short, what is two days?), Tallula joined our family. And what a month and two days it's been. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it hasn't. At least not yet. This kid is ridiculously easy-going. And fun. And feisty. I wasn't able to upload any videos in China, so I'm going back and adding a few to the blog. And if you'd like to watch our first moments together, … [Read more...]

2 weeks. and 2 days.

breakfast-1

That's how long we've been home with Tallula. She continues to reveal bits and pieces of herself. And we sure are enjoying the ride. She's smart. When we fold clothes, she loves to tell us whose laundry is whose. She can do a number of signs. And she's picking up English left and right. She's outspoken. She is not intimidated by anything. Or anyone. She is quick to let us know when she loves something, and when she doesn't. And when you find something she loves, her smile lights up the room. She's feisty. She loves to be … [Read more...]

eight days

crabby-5

We've been home one week. And one day. And, well... that seems like reason enough to take some pictures of Tallula. Unfortunately, she was not too happy when she awoke from her afternoon nap. Which isn't her usual post-sleepy-time mood. But, because daylight was burning - and the fruit snacks didn't seem to be working - we I decided to go ahead and take those pictures. After all, y'all haven't seen much of Tallula's unhappy face. Heck, I haven't seen a lot of Tallula's unhappy face. Except on the plane on the way home. … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: {bubbles}

bathtime-1

One of the only times this girl sits still is when she's in the tub. Especially when there are bubbles involved. So I took it as the perfect photo op. And since it's been cold, windy and rainy outside for the last 2 days, I took it as the only photo op. Tallula continues to settle in beautifully around here. Honestly, she's one incredibly easy-going kid. There have been a few rough patches, though. Seems our girl has a bit of a combative streak in her. And she's not afraid to show it. Poppy and Jude seem to be the most frequent … [Read more...]

Jet lag…

home-1

is a funny thing. And we're in the thick of it now. But I wanted to get these few pictures up while I'm alert awake conscious. Because these first few days home are so very precious. And easily forgotten in a jet-lagged haze. Tallula is another story, though. She's a snooze-time rockstar. She slept from 9:30 last night until 8:00 this morning. I've only been sleeping 4 to 5 hours at night. And suffering from the effects of too little sleep. Sore legs. Red eyes. Lack of coherent thought. But this too shall pass. Seeing my … [Read more...]

home with Tallula

tallulahome-1

Home. Ahhhhhh. We got in late last night after a 2 hour train ride, a 1 hour taxi ride, a night in Hong Kong, a 15 hour flight, a 2 hour flight and a 1 1/2 hour drive home. And some layovers on the side. We started out insanely early, but one can never be too early for a flight bound for home. Dalton was still green and completely exhausted from his bout with food poisoning. But blessedly no longer involuntarily expelling every hour. And able to hold down sips of water. Thank you, Lord, for prayer warriors, Zofran and friends on Facebook. … [Read more...]

headed for home…

daltoncone-1

We leave in just a few hours. All packed up and ready to go. Next stop Hong Kong, and then on Wednesday night, at 6:30 PM, we'll be home. Just had to get one last picture of Dalton, enjoying one of his favorite things about Shamian Island. And here was his big brother 2 1/2 years ago, doing the same thing. In the same place. At the same age. Gonna squeeze the dickens out of all my babies when I get home. Would y'all keep us in your prayers, please? We have a very long travel day ahead of us - if one can call a 40+ hours a 'day' - and we … [Read more...]

Tallula: a girl and her silks

chinafortalluladay8-3

Today is our last full day in Guangzhou. Which calls for some pictures of my baby girl in her silks. Who needs the red couch when you've got Shamian Island as a backdrop? And I also figured it was a good time to share a bit more about Tallula. Because I know that although most of who she is will stay the same, much will change in the coming days and weeks. She talks. Boy, does she talk. Her referral paperwork stated that she was able to speak in three word sentences before she was 12 months old. And although I had my doubts, I doubt no more. … [Read more...]
