two years with Tallula

Lula2Years-2edit

Two years, y'all. Not only is my baby 4 now, but she's been home for 2 years. I posted about her being home one year, and it feels like that was just a few months ago. I've heard it said that time goes by faster and faster as you get older... guess that makes me really old. What can I say about Lula? She's wonderful. She is smart. She can write her name. Draw a face with eyelashes and lips. Say the alphabet and count to 30. She is busy. She is in everybody's business. And everybody's stuff. She occasionally struggles with keeping … [Read more...]

my baby is 4

Lula4-4edit

Lula is 4. And that might not sound like such a big deal. But it's been a long, loooooong time since my littlest has been 4. Like 15 years, y'all. When Zach was 4, I was pregnant with Asher. And ever since then, I've had at least one little one under 4. Technically, all my kiddos will be school-aged in just a few years. And I'm only 45. Ha. Ha. Ha. There is something to be said about parenting as a more *ahem* mature mama. Age and experience have mellowed me. Rounded off some sharp edges. Taught be to let some things go. I am … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: snow

TallulaWeek3-1

Several of y'all have asked and no, I did not photograph my kids on their snow-day-extravaganza. Because mom + ice + snow + camera = certain wreckage. Also, like my children, I strongly dislike being cold. And wet. But I did manage to get a few of Miss Tallula the day before. I'm in a photography class and I had an assignment in mind. The beautiful blanket of snow was inspiring. Tallula was thrilled to be my muse. Especially because it meant she'd be on the initial expedition out into the snow. She also knew that candy and a tutu might be … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: 14 from 2013

poet2013

I did it last year. The year before. And even the year before that. It's sort of a thing, I suppose. And, since 2013 doesn't want to be left out, here are my favorites from the last year. Not necessarily technically my favorites, from a photography standpoint. Just from a mama's standpoint. 1. Princess Vivienne. 2. My incredibly silly pony. 3. My brave and beautiful Velvet, just days before she passed away. 4. Isabelle... being Isabelle. 5. Tallula, home one wonderful year. 6. My babies. Every one of 'em. 7. My biggest boy, the … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: ice, baby.

iceskating2

I've got a lazy bone. And even though I'd promised my kids I'd take them ice skating, the lazy mama in me was so not looking forward to it. Because I knew. I knew taking 6 kids - 4 of whom have never donned ice skates before - was going to be painful. Thankfully, my tickets had an expiration date. Because, even more than I am lazy, I am frugal. So we ventured out, our first official homeschool field trip this year. The girls were ecstatic. Despite the fact that they could barely let go of the side, and their feet got sore, and they were cold, … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: thankful

vivienne

Two days ago we celebrated Thanksgiving. But, before we dug into our big turkey dinner, I decided to ask our youngest seven what they were most thankful for. I thought it would be an interesting little exercise in learning more about what stirs their affections and, hopefully, remind them of all of the ways God has blessed them. I did not prompt any of them and I didn't let any of them know what their siblings had said. I wanted their answers to be all them. Some took longer than others, but they all were able to come up with five, and probably could have … [Read more...]

a fall day

fallday-2

Ahhhh, fall. My kids love being outside this time of year. We all do. And with the big boys homeschooling now, it's a whole new level of fun when we're all outside together. Which is sometimes a good thing, and sometimes a not-so-good thing. On this day, it was more than a good thing. It was completely adorable. Blessed to be surrounded by so much cuteness. Linking up with my good friend Lisa at the Long Road to China. … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: Tallula this summer

lulasummer3

We celebrated Poppy's 2 years home with a photo shoot. And since then, I've been taking my kids out - one by one - to capture them this summer. Admittedly, that was almost 3 months ago and we are well into fall at this point. But I won't stop now. I'm determined to finish. Sophie's photos are here. Isabelle's are here. Dalton's are here. Jude and Shepherd's are here. Vivienne's are here. And today I got Tallula's. *pant* Just a few more to go. My sweet Tallula. Since she has such a love of flowers, I picked a spot full of wildflowers for … [Read more...]

how they grow

kidssizes

Because my memory often fails me. And because you can't misplace the internet (not that I've ever misplaced anything important.) I took measurements of my kiddos about the same time last year. But - thinking I'd get around to measuring them later - I skipped the littles. And never did measure them. Until yesterday. This year I decided to forego the lengthy process of individual pictures. And went for the super-quick group shot. After an after-school snack, I herded them out front. Begged them to look less irritated than they were. And took what I could … [Read more...]
