what I’ve been doing

house-2

Oh my goodness, y'all. I am getting too old for this crazy drive-to-Atlanta-stay-up-late-with-adoptive-mamas-sell-Wild-Olive-tees-then-househunt-for-two-days-barely-sleep-and-then-drive-nine-hours-through-a-rainstorm-to-get-home kind of stuff. Asher and I got in last night around dinner and I barely managed to shovel down some spaghetti and meatballs before I fell asleep on the couch. Sitting up. It was pretty sad. The good news is that I *think* we found a house. A lovely, solid 6 bedroom house in a great area on a gorgeous piece of land. Hardwood floors. Lots … [Read more...]

seven years ago

... I wrote my first blog post. And it was so not good. Tori was 16, Zach was 13, Asher was 6 and Dalton was 4. Isabelle had been home for 7 months and we were knee-deep in paperwork to bring Sophie home. Things were a little different. I love to be able to look back at all that has happened since then - not because it's perfectly captured, but because it perfectly captures our story. With God as the author. Honestly, there were several times over the years that I considered pulling down my little bloggy shingle and closing up shop. Sometimes it just felt … [Read more...]

what I have been doing.

books

So, y'all might have noticed that I haven't been around quite as much. And that's been deliberate. I have felt like I need to step back a bit to get a fresh perspective on my priorities. How I spend my time, my energy. How I spend my self. Because, whether we want to believe it or not, we are spending ourselves every moment of every day on something. God is really working on me. And as I've hinted at before, I'm not quite sure what He's up to. But I want to share this with y'all because it's so much more than a destination. It's a journey. And I'm so enjoying … [Read more...]

in the air

There is something in the air around here. Beyond the smell of dogs and dirty socks. It is change. And lots of it. My husband and I are in the midst of some big changes that are happening seemingly simultaneously. Some changes have come on slowly and steadily. Others have pounced on us unexpectedly. But right now it feels like much of what I deem to be my solid ground here on earth is churning with change. Forgive me while I spill. -- Finally, after bringing Tallula home, we feel like we are done growing our family. Yay! Because P.S. Our house is FULL. But … [Read more...]

toes-1

Eeek. This sorta makes my tummy hurt. But I've been thinking about doing it for a long time. I just haven't had the wherewithal to actually do it. Until now. With the help of Passionfruit, I'm now accepting sponsors on a limited basis. And I'm excited about sharing like-minded shops and blogs with y'all. So, if you're interested in having your blog or business featured here on Ni Hao Y'all, or if you're just curious, you can read all about it here. … [Read more...]

FBpage-1

I'm no facebook pro. In fact, I'm pretty much a facebook dummy. Such a dummy, in fact, that I set up my original Ni Hao Y'all facebook account as a person, instead of a website. And, evidently, facebook does not dig that. So, although I meant to do this months ago, I finally did it. I created a facebook page. I even made a cover. Eventually I'll be posting all my FB stuff over there, but I wanted to be sure y'all knew about it first. In case anyone actually wants to read my stuff. And, of course, I'll still be blogging here. How to post here is one … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: {six years – a look back and a giveaway}

SophieLu

I know. It's not quite Sunday. But this isn't your average Sunday Snapshot, either. Today, January 28th, marks six years since I began blogging. And a few things have happened since then. Sophie came home. We moved from the midwest to the southeast. Jude came home. The blog went from "Sophie Makes Six" to "Ni Hao Y'all". Shepherd came home. We moved back to the midwest. No Hands But Ours went from a dream to reality. My crazy friends and I started up our own t-shirt business - Wild Olive. Vivienne came home. I became the US … [Read more...]

remembering 2011

I have been wanting to do a 'year-in-review' of 2011 for a while. But it sounds sooo much easier than it is. Every time I would start thinking of every thing that transpired in 2011 - no matter where my thoughts would begin - they always took me to the same place. Esther. Man, that sadness just does not go away. But, I suppose, it shouldn't. And I'm not even sure I want it to go away, in a strange way. Sadness can break you... or sadness can grow you. And it is my hope that my sadness over losing sweet Esther will make me more into the person God wants me … [Read more...]

just been so scattered lately. homeschooling. researching. putting a fresh coat of stain on the swing set. and even, believe it or not, even thinking ahead to Christmas. I have a lot to share, just a lack of time for blogging this week. but after the bigger kiddos went to bed tonight, I got a quiet moment to check in. and, since she and her bear are still up, Poppy wanted to say hey, too. hoping to have more time for catching up this weekend. … [Read more...]

all things new

estherreferral-2

Did y'all see? The entirely new look? And, I made the big switch from blogger to WordPress. sniff sniff. It was hard, and scary, to finally say adios to Blogger. We've been good friends for over 5 years now. But really WordPress is just so much more flexible. And user friendly. And cooler. Did I just say that? And the pictures can be bigger. Pretty sweet, huh? A biiiig thank you to my friend Lauren for the overhaul. I am pretty easy going about a lot of things, but for all things bloggy? I am a super freak. And she hooked me up... big time. … [Read more...]
