Sunday Snapshot: Jude

DSC_0690

Jude doesn't like to be cornered. So I knew my efforts to capture him for this Sunday Snapshot post would have to be cunning.Fast.And in his own element.So I took him to the playroom.And he was happy.Jude came home at 19 months, in the summer of 2007. It took he and I about three weeks to 'bond' and that was it.We were mother and son.I positively, absolutely and completely adore him.Jude is bright. He is able to learn new things without any effort, either on my part or his. I've never intentionally 'taught' him anything, yet he knows his numbers, colors and anything … [Read more...]

Sunday snapshot: Dalton {the overflow}

I had such a great time yesterday with Dalton and Asher as we ventured out for Sunday Snapshot pics. And then I came home and read about all your kiddos, and it made my day even better! Thanks so much to everyone who participated... y'all have some amazing and beautiful children!I couldn't resist, and had to post more pictures from our day over on my other blog, life {in transparency}... there were too many cute ones not to post them somewhere. And it seems the only place that will have me and my pics is blogger.Plus, pictures always look better full-size. Except when … [Read more...]

Ahhh Dalton.He is not easy to photograph.Sitting for the camera is not one of his favorite pastimes.And smiling? No thank you. I have to tease and trick those smiles out of him.He takes himself very seriously.Evidently, when you're almost 8, life is pretty serious.So it was a most welcomed surprise to run into "Coozie", the little-bitty, tinkling, incredibly nosy dog we met at the local park.He broke down Dalton's defenses.I like breaking down people's defenses. But when I can't, I'll gladly allow a dog to do the work for me.Look at him. He's starting to … [Read more...]

Miss Sophie Lu.She is 5 going on 25.Sophie came home at 27 months old. Even then, she seemed 'grown up'.Wise beyond her years.She still is.She loves to ask questions. And one question just leads to another. Her curiosity is insatiable.As you might imagine, she absolutely adores school. Hanging out at the house is just so boring. And anytime anyone is headed out, she's ready to go. No questions asked.On the outside she's a very laid-back, easy going, compliant child.But underneath she's a bit of a wild child. We see glimpses of this at night... when she gets tired, she … [Read more...]

Sunday snapshot: Shepherd

Last night we celebrated.Another birthday, another reason to party.Since Shepherd officially turned 3 on Wednesday, we've sorta been celebrating for a few days now... a present here, a present there.He's heard "Happy Birthday" so many times he sings it to himself now.Since today is Sunday, I thought I'd make this not only a post about Shepherd's birthday, but a Sunday snapshot post as well. About Shepherd, of course.I'm good at multi-tasking like that.Shepherd loves 'race cars'. Especially the cars from the movie Cars. Namely "Lightning McQueen".He also loves … [Read more...]

Sunday snapshot: Asher

Asher means "happy" in Hebrew. If ever a child truly embodied his name, it would be my boy.He is happy.And he makes me happy.He loves sweets. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that I craved cherry pie filling during my entire pregnancy.I must have eaten a lot of said cherry pie filling because Asher weighed almost a pound and a half more than any of my other kiddos.And he's still big. At 10 years old, he wears a size 9 men's shoe. And size 12 jeans. His hands are almost as big as mine. And he eats more than Chris and I put together.He loves school … [Read more...]

This post isn't so much for you as it is for me.When I wrote 'thankful' the other day, it required that I look back at some of the old stuff.Stuff I'd already forgotten, it happened so long ago.Like two whole years ago.I have got to lay off the aspartame.So, without further ado, I'll be posting regular updates on my kids. Sunday Snapshot, I'll call it. Maybe with a snappy name like that, I'll remember. I'll feature one of my kiddos, ideally with a cute picture, and what's goin' on in their lives.I'd say it's for them, so they have this to look back on, but it's really … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: an overview

2yzh9at1

Sunday Snapshot was born out of a realization that I'm just not the youngster I used to be. Neither is my memory. And I realized in my blogging, I'd moved away from my original intention: to capture, in words and in pictures, our lives... the good, the bad, the pretty and the the not-so-pretty. So, in an effort to create a way for me to not forget to take pictures, and chronicle the lives of our children, I decided to start Sunday snapshot. If you don't have as many kiddos as I do, like the vast majority of the planet, feel free to participate once or twice … [Read more...]

a walk in the woods

The leaves are changing so quickly here, and the array of colors is positively breathtaking. Chris and I are purposefully taking time to get out with the kiddos and enjoy the changing season before we freeze our butts off winter descends upon us.Last weekend as we were driving home, we ran across a beautiful state park. We decided to return the next day, properly attired and with the dogs, to check it out on foot.It was quite the Herculean effort just to get everyone out the door and in clothes that, if necessary, could be burned and not missed, but that also covered … [Read more...]

Sometimes I get really tired of dragging my big, bulky camera along on family excursions.Then I remind myself, if I don't carry along my camera, all our joyful outings might go undocumented.But the lazy side of me retorts, to haul around my (decidedly breakable) Nikon is sometimes so. not. worth. the effort.But today it absolutely, completely, was.The weather was perfect.The kids were all happy.Nature cooperated.And I was able to get, out of the 300+ or so that I took, some pictures actually worth the effort.I even got one that I think, dare I say it, just might be our … [Read more...]
