Christmas cookies

Christmas-Cookies-22

This Christmas we are paring down. 1. because we want to 2. because we have to Last year we pared down a lot. And it was good. But the Lord has continued to open our eyes to the all ways He has gone before us. And continues to walk alongside us. There is nothing that we need that we don't already have. Really, what could a box contain that could compare to having Him? Beyond spending less, this year we are going out less. Like not. at. all. None of the usual Christmas festivities or outings, all in an effort to keep our littlest peanut as healthy as … [Read more...]

to China for Clementine: the silks

IMG_0611.JPG

Years ago, it became the tradition to buy your new child a set of silks, and take a picture of them on the "red couch" at the White Swan Hotel (the hotel where almost all the new adoptive families stayed) on your last day in China. Poppy was the last of our kiddos to follow in that tradition. The White Swan closed its doors in 2011. No more red couch. When we travelled to bring home Tallula in 2012, I still wanted a picture of my girl in her silks. I just needed to find a new backdrop. So we bought her some silks, and let her run loose on Shamian … [Read more...]

I’m gonna miss ‘em.

FallKids-23

So what does a mama do, when she should be packing for China? She ventures into the fall-colored woods with her kiddos and takes pictures of their sweet faces. Because she's gonna miss 'em. Crazy to me that I'll be leaving in a little over 24 hours. And I'll be away for 2 whole weeks. Away from all these shiny little faces. All these busy little hands. All these noisy little feet. I am *almost* missing them already, and I haven't even left yet. Almost. Thankfully, they're not feeling the same sappy sentimentality over momma leaving. Because … [Read more...]

orphan sunday

littles-2

Today is Orphan Sunday. We watched a video in church that was created to celebrate all the children who have come home to families in our church through adoption. Some from Ethiopia. South Korea. Alabama. And a few especially adorable ones from China that, when their faces flashed across the screen, might have made me tear up a little. Especially their faces before they came home. It's not that they didn't have a roof over their heads. Or clothes on their backs. Or food in their belly. It's that they didn't have parents, a mama to snuggle … [Read more...]

because He loved us

ThankYous-2

Wow. Just wow. It's been four days since our fundraiser ended and I'm still basically speechless. Over 700 people gave. Over $36,000 was raised. And over 1500 Found shirts will be printed and worn - God's people carrying His Word on their back on behalf of one little girl, halfway around the world. Speechless. So I thought pictures might better convey the joy we are feeling around here. Because of all God did - and all y'all did - in helping us bring our sweet Clementine home. First a little background on the pictures. The girls and I have been … [Read more...]

We went to the Lifeline family reunion yesterday at Veteran's Park. And I brought my camera along. But, let's just say, I ended up doing a whole lot more talking than picture taking. And I came home without a single shot. But the day wasn't over yet. I was standing in the kitchen watching the girls furiously coloring the cup inserts they got from the festivities, and listening to them chat about their drawings, the colors they were choosing and discussing their appreciation for the fine-tipped markers we have at home versus the broad-tipped ones at … [Read more...]

In my last post, I promised I'd share about my birthday gift. The extra-special-something-I'd-asked-for. And here it is. Or more appropriately, here she is. Last fall, just a few months after bringing our beloved Noah home, I knew that someday I'd want another boston terrier. I am, if you haven't already noticed, kind of an animal lover. I'd have a houseful of dogs if Chris agreed. And once we got our first boston I knew, even Chris knew, this was the breed for us. I also knew that if we ever did get another boston terrier, I'd want it from this particular … [Read more...]

Sophie-floating

Been loving my summer photography class. As always, Lisa is pushing all of us way out of our comfy-cozy-safe-place. Where - if it were up to us - some of us would stay. *ahem* And, I have to say, it has been so. much. fun. One of our assignments was to photographically interpret Mystical, Magical, Fantastical. And this was my interpretation. With a whole lot of help from Sophie, Chris and Photoshop. … [Read more...]

And school is out. How the heck did that happen? Actually, school has been out for a week already and I'm just now getting my head above water long enough to post these pictures I took on the last day of school (aka last morning to wake up at 5:45 until September, hallelujah). And in a effort to keep a record of how they grow, I'm including a little snippet about each of these three - "the school kids" as they're known around here. I'll be sharing about the other kiddos when they're actually done with school. First off is Shepherd. He just finished 1st … [Read more...]

Been thinking a lot about adoption lately. April marked 2 years home with Tallula. May was the month we traveled to China for Sophie in 2006 and Isabelle in 2005. It's also the month Esther passed away in 2011. And June will mark 10 years since the Lord opened our eyes to caring for the orphan. 10 years, y'all. (Excuse me while I take a moment to feel very, very old.) June was also the month we traveled to China for Jude in 2008 and Shepherd in 2009. Yep. Adoption has been on my mind for so many reasons. Usually, when I look at pictures of my … [Read more...]
