a pleasant surprise

Woods-4Edit

I had a photography assignment to do. One I had kinda-sorta been putting off. Because the assignment was to get a picture of me. *yeah* So, since I don't own a tripod nor a remote, I figured I'd have one of my kiddos snap the picture... you know, once I'd determined the location, chosen the settings on my camera, taken a few practice shots, given them detailed instructions on composition and then switched places with them. Simple enough, right? I gathered up the kiddos who were willing to join me on my photo-adventure, and we were off. Out to the … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: double digits

drama1

Sophie is turning 10. Oh my. I've often pondered the fact that, in just eight short years, we'll have six teenagers in the house. At the same time. This birthday feels like one giant step in that direction. *sigh* Thankfully, our beautiful Sophie has managed to hang on to her easy-going ways. Even as she's gotten older. She's thoughtful. She's spirited. She's joyful. Welcome to double digits, my love. Ten certainly looks beautiful on you. If you're ready to play along, go ahead and link up below. Sunday Snapshot: 14 from 2013

poet2013

I did it last year. The year before. And even the year before that. It's sort of a thing, I suppose. And, since 2013 doesn't want to be left out, here are my favorites from the last year. Not necessarily technically my favorites, from a photography standpoint. Just from a mama's standpoint. 1. Princess Vivienne. 2. My incredibly silly pony. 3. My brave and beautiful Velvet, just days before she passed away. 4. Isabelle... being Isabelle. 5. Tallula, home one wonderful year. 6. My babies. Every one of 'em. 7. My biggest boy, the … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: thankful

vivienne

Two days ago we celebrated Thanksgiving. But, before we dug into our big turkey dinner, I decided to ask our youngest seven what they were most thankful for. I thought it would be an interesting little exercise in learning more about what stirs their affections and, hopefully, remind them of all of the ways God has blessed them. I did not prompt any of them and I didn't let any of them know what their siblings had said. I wanted their answers to be all them. Some took longer than others, but they all were able to come up with five, and probably could have … [Read more...]

first day of first grade.

firstdayofschool1

And second grade. And third grade. And, yes, fourth grade. Not necessarily in that order. Just look at my sweet babies. Love 'em so much. I did sort of cheat with my "first day of school" pictures, though. Instead of getting a picture of each of my school-bound kiddos, I went for the group shot. At least it's better than the picture I got last year. As I watched my kiddos teeter off to the bus stop with their over-stuffed backpacks and arms full of school supplies (what the heck, how many supplies can one kid need?), I was torn... Sad because … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: Sophie this summer

Sophiesummer-11

Last fall I did a series of pictures of all of my kiddos. One by one I took each one of 'em out for a mini-shoot, in lieu of paying out the nose for unflattering school photos. And, although it still cost me plenty in lollipops and bug bites, it was oh-so worth it. Since then, they've gone and changed on me. And so, I'm doing it again. One by one, I'll make my way through each of my babies, to capture the changes. You know, before they go and change again. I chose to start with Sophie since she's always enthusiastic about things like this. And she … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: my babies

kidsportrait-2

It's been a busy summer. In a good way. I've let a lot of "regular" things slip because I wanted to be intentional about spending time with my kids. And it has been so ridiculously fun. One of the things I put on the back burner - besides blogging regularly - was my photography. I used to pull my camera out every day or two. Lately it's been every week or two. Despite the layer of dust growing on my camera I was determined, before summer ended, to get a picture of all of my babies - together. To be honest, though, just the monstrosity of the task gave me … [Read more...]

off they go

camp-2

... to camp. Monday through Thursday. And, if you can't tell, they were over the top excited about it. In fact, it was the most often discussed subject for weeks leading up to "go time". Mama's taking it a little harder. I know they'll have a great time. I know they'll learn a lot about Jesus. It's just not easy to let them go an hour away. Overnight. An hour away. Overnight. Is it Thursday yet? … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: {the dress}

sophie9-1

Sophie just turned 9. And one of her presents was a new dress. One she'd been wanting for a long time. The moment she put it on, she shined. She felt beautiful. She looked beautiful. And when a girl feels beautiful, it shows. Seriously. Every girl needs a dress like this. Happy Birthday to you, our beautiful Sophie Lu. If you're ready to play along this week, visit here for the full scoop. To link up this week with your Sunday Snapshot, just copy the code under the Snapshot button and paste it into the body of your post where you’d like … [Read more...]

on my heart

Isabelle

November is National Adoption Month. And yesterday was Orphan Sunday. So the subject of adoption has been occupying a lot of my brain matter lately. As a momma to seven beloved children that were once considered orphans, adoption is often on my mind. But I've been reminded that I want my passion for adoption to be more than something that is on my heart and in my head... I want my life to be affected as well. I want to be changed. I want my life to look different because of all that God has revealed to me about His heart for the orphan. I had hoped to write … [Read more...]
