Sunday Snapshot: {the dress}

sophie9-1

Sophie just turned 9. And one of her presents was a new dress. One she'd been wanting for a long time. The moment she put it on, she shined. She felt beautiful. She looked beautiful. And when a girl feels beautiful, it shows. Seriously. Every girl needs a dress like this. Happy Birthday to you, our beautiful Sophie Lu. on my heart

Isabelle

November is National Adoption Month. And yesterday was Orphan Sunday. So the subject of adoption has been occupying a lot of my brain matter lately. As a momma to seven beloved children that were once considered orphans, adoption is often on my mind. But I've been reminded that I want my passion for adoption to be more than something that is on my heart and in my head... I want my life to be affected as well. I want to be changed. I want my life to look different because of all that God has revealed to me about His heart for the orphan. I had hoped to write … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: {more school pictures}

girlsfall-1

Slowly but surely, I'm knocking out the school pictures for this year. Four down, two more to go. This Sunday Snapshot is all about my girls. My big-but-smaller-than-their-oldest-sister girls. My small-but-bigger-than-their-younger-sisters girls. You get the idea. Here's Miss Sophie Lu. Mom: What is your favorite thing about 3rd grade? Sophie: That I can get bucks, like in reading and math, and if you've done all the work and haven't been playing around I get two stamps and two stamps equal a buck. But if you've been talking then you only get one … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: {autumn fest}

autumnfest-1

Today was autumn fest in our little town. Despite the fact that the weather felt much more like summer than autumn, we attended. And had a blast. These were taken in the afternoon. I had to continually change my settings to account for the changing light conditions and I lost a lot of images due to poor exposure. Live and learn. I took these with my Nikon D90, 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. My settings for the first one were ISO 200 f/2.8 1/160 55mm. I edited them all in CS6 with Florabella Colorplay Perfect Color. If … [Read more...]

settled

football-1

We've been here for a bit over a year and we are finally feeling settled. Which is great for lots of reasons... The girls are cheering for the itty bitty football league we have here in town. And they love it. Isabelle, for obvious reasons. She is not only allowed to run, jump and scream... she is encouraged to. And carry pom poms the entire time. And Sophie has always wanted to be a cheerleader, just like her cousin who cheers competitively. Which is great, except for one tiny caveat: her … [Read more...]

first day of school :: round two

school-1-3

As I mentioned last week, I missed an opportunity to get pictures of my kids on the first day of school. And - as much as I'd intended to get pictures of them every. single. day. - the rest of that first week was basically an ugly blur. They'd come home in the afternoons with backpacks loaded with papers to sign, flyers to read, assignments, projects and papers to complete. So today, one week and one day after the official start of school, I finally took pictures. Since I knew outside wasn't going to work (been there, tried that) I figured I'd just have a go … [Read more...]

Sunday Snapshot: {the beach}

beach-0

Oh my. Be forewarned, there are a ton of pictures below. It was our singular "vacation" of the year, if you want to call it a vacation. What it was was one wondrous day at the beach. And so, I took a lot of pictures. It was also Poppy's first time to the beach. She wasn't so sure how she felt about it. It was Tallula's first time to the beach, too. Initially she had some anxiety over the waves coming in and then rushing back out. But soon she decided this was a pretty cool place to be. And so did all the … [Read more...]

this summer…

reading-3

... out of desperation, we began doing something we'd never done before. We instituted a mandatory quiet time for all people under 10. Because having 11 kids in the house all day can get a teeny tiny bit crazy. The idea was that everyone would grab their library books - oh, public library, how I love thee - and snuggle up on their beds to read. Or, in some cases, pretend to read. And the main goal was to just manage the craziness this summer. But it has been so much better than that. Now the kids actually ask to go lay down to read. Or I … [Read more...]

hello, summer.

last day of school-5

I didn't get it done. The weather simply has refused to cooperate with my plans to get a Sunday Snapshot of the birthday boy. But I'm not giving up. For now, since the weather still doesn't look like it's going to cooperate, I must move on. School is out. And as I've done in years past, I'm doing a quick recap of the school year. Because anything I want to remember, I'd better write down. last day of school - June 8, 2012 I don't have a first day photo of him. They staggered the kindergarteners first day of school, so Jude got to sleep in. I did do a … [Read more...]

choo. choo.

train-3

It's not too often I find all of my youngest in a candid moment that I actually want to capture on film. But yesterday, I did. They had been given the "wrap it up" nod from in the house and were busily cleaning up. Or so I thought. Turned out they were cleaning up... but with a bit of a twist. Poppy was in the middle of it all. No big surprise there. The surprise was that her two older brothers and three older sisters were all working together. To push/pull her along in their homemade train-like contraption. And they were … [Read more...]
