Vive la difference!

While I was watching the girls indulge in some late-night chocolate chip cookies, I noticed how different my girls really are. Isabelle was savoring each melty chocolate bite, oblivious to the streaks of chocolate accumulating on her face and hands (and jammies!) Sophie on the other hand was thoughtfully holding her cookie with the tips of her two fingers, as if she were holding something that might jump out of her hands and bite her. If, by some chance, she got some chocolate on her fingers she would go straight for the napkin, painstakingly wiping off all evidence of any cookie eating. After tiring of wiping her hands on the napkin, she resorted to just eating the cookie straight off the plate. After all, why use the hands if you don’t have to? They both enjoyed their experience equally, each asking for cookie after cookie, but doing it in their own special way. I wonder how their personality differences will exhibit themselves when they’re teenagers? Too scary to consider at this point…

OMG — That is too funny! Must be a Guangxi Girl thing becuase LiLi is the same exact way, right down to the way she holds her cookie and use the napkin! I was stuned by the similarities 🙂

It’s funny that way isn’t it? 2 children in the same home with the same parents and somehow they come out totally different.
I see that in my own children.
    Your pictures are great!
Chocolate chip cookies are a tradition at our house!

Wow, that’s amazing, isn’t it? The subtle differences. And I think you might be right… kinda scary to imagine the future. But kinda exciting too. I’m still floored Stef that they’ve grown up so much. It seems like yesterday I was watching the board light up with referrals, or seeing your announcement that you decided to adopt Isabelle and later Sophie. Time is really a tricky thing. It challenges me daily to live in the moment, never an easy thing to do when I want to be in China yesterday. For now, I live vicariously through you and all my other friends who are home with their children…
Can’t wait to hear that you will soon be leaving to bring Jude into the mix!

    Stefanie,
Brinley was looking at the photos on this post and when we came to the next to the last one of Sophie she yelled, “Wait, Mama! China friend!!!!” and she was excitedly pointing to Sophie. 🙂
