Happy Birthday Asher

My sweet Asher turned 8 years old today. For his big day he wanted his best buddy, Eli, to come over for the day. Chris took the boys to see Surf’s Up and then we all hit the pizza buffet for dinner. Nothing says “Happy Birthday” to an 8 year old boy like all- you- can- stand pizza. We let the boys spend a couple of bucks in the game room and they thought they had died and gone to heaven. Even more fun that spending the money on cheesy arcade games was trying to decide what goodies to get with their hard- won tickets. Good stuff. When we got home we had cake and ice cream. My precious boy wanted momma to make him a cake, so we skipped the usual WalMart cake this year. He asked for chocolate chip cake with chocolate frosting and I did my best to fulfill his request. After cake and ice cream we moved onto the gifts. Afterward Asher was thrilled to be able to line his wallet with lots of green 🙂 The night ended with Night At The Museum on DVD watched from the floor in sleeping bags. Asher was happy, so mom and dad were happy.

I feel incredibly blessed to have been chosen to be this child’s mother. He inspires me every day to be a better person. He was born with the softest, kindest heart. His 1st grade teacher actually asked me what we did to make him the way he is. Honestly, he just was born this way. It’s his nature. He always thinks of others first. He offers his things to others if he thinks they might want it. And he is happy to do it. He loves with his whole heart. He celebrates others victories and mourns in their losses. The kind of person you just want to be around. He reminds me all the time of how Jesus wants us to be, demonstrating the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. His name means “blessed” and “happy”. It truly fits him. Happy Birthday, Asher.
