If you’re anything like me, and get much of your “news” from reading other people’s blogs, then you might have read about the new news on melamine on Salsa In China yesterday. It caused me some concern as two of my kiddos, adopted in 2007 and 2008, were adopted during the time of potential ‘contamination’. When the news first broke a few weeks ago, I heaved a big sigh of relief upon reading that none of my children’s orphanages had been using formula found to be tainted. But from what I have gathered since, there is a chance that in addition to my boys, my girls, adopted in 2005 and 2006, might be at risk as well. I found a wonderful article HERE, and I think it’s necessary reading for all parents of Chinese adoptees. If you’ve already read it and you already know all this, then you get a gold star 🙂

We scheduled an ultrasound for Emma a couple of weeks ago and Hannah already had one.
There is a whole yahoo groups devoted to this topic started by a mom from my agency.
It seems that the reports from orphanages as to whether they used contaminated formula is apt to be incomplete or wrong (formula types and sources change). Also, no one knows just how long melamime has been added to infant formulas and other products. Some formulas had a much heavier dose than others and we chose to have Emma tested as a baseline because there is really no way of knowing what either of the girls injested with their formula.

Didn’t know it. But as part of Li’l Empress’s special needs, she is scheduled this month for a renal ultrasound anyway. I didn’t know THIS but when the ears are forming in a baby’s development “in utero” so are the kidneys. Since she has Microtia of the right ear, they will do a complete evaluation of her kidney function to rule out any other issues. I’ll be sure to pass the word, though.

Ugh…I suppose the testing has to be done…ugh. Thanks for sharing this. You are so right, incredibly important, but so not fun.
Hope all is well. I have to tell you, I am so moved by your sister’s adoption and so grateful to intercede ont heir behalf – even the girls are praying for them:)
