… again.

I know. I’m wondering the same thing.

What is up?

I’m posting about my dog… again?

Well, he did it… again.

This time?

A skunk.

In all my 42 years, I have never had a run in with a porcupine or a skunk. And now? Well, let’s just say I can cross those off my to-do list.

And I, unwittingly, let him and the skunk funk in the house… right in the middle of our taco dinner.

Jude started gagging immediately.

I don’t think we’ll be having tacos again anytime soon.

Thank goodness Chris is home tonight and was able to run Seamus upstairs for a long, loooong bath.

But he still stinks.

Our entire house stinks.

Bad things like this happen in twos, right?

Please say they do.

If you put charcoal in buckets in the rooms that smell the most in will help in quickly absorbing the odor. From experience unfortunately!!

Like I said before, this dog needs his own blog. He's always up to something interesting ๐Ÿ™‚

Seamus is every bit as adorable as each of your children…and that's a very good thing for him!

My husband's grandmother who lives in very rural Georgia had a "run in" with a skunk recently and she washed him in tomato juice. She said it works???

Ammonia in shallow dishes will help some with the odor in the house, and the tomato juice thing will help with the dog. Our bassets had a run-in with a skunk years ago, and hubby didn't let them in the house, but he did put them in the car before he realized what had happened.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda and Dawn Dish Soap. Equal amounts. Our dogs were recently sprayed as well. This actually works! You will be shocked at the difference in smell.

Skip the tomato juice and go for the white vinegar. It's the acid that does the trick. But the vinegar is much easier to wash out of the dog than the tomato juice. http://www.ehow.com/how_2081710_get-skunk-smell-off-dog.html Good luck!

Bridgette is right. Hydrogen Peroxide, baking soda & dish soap will do the job. You can't store it – it has to be made fresh, but it works. I showed dogs back in the day (you know, before I adopted), and this is what everyone used to get rid of skunk odor.

Anything 'highly acid' and that will cut oil (skunk spray is oil based) – tomato juice, vinegar, dish washing soap (dawn is really good at breaking up oils), and unfortunatly time….

As for the house – go get some charcoal for grills – the kind that does NOT have the starter fluid on it – crush that up and put it on cookie sheets in any room with the funk and that will help a lot – the finer the better – but keep the kids out of it cause it's a mess that keeps on giving if it gets spilled!

Maybe you should think about another dog – if he had a playmate maybe he'd run with a better bunch of friends? ๐Ÿ˜‰

And don't delude yourself….you know the rule of three!

Feeling you pain but glad to not be smelling your funk – and hugs –

    aus and co.

Oh my goodness, Toby (jack russell terror) did that in the middle of the night and I let him in before I realized it. Even after several baths in tomato juice he was slightly skunky for months. I heard, after the fact, that hydrogen peroxide and baking soda work well. Good Luck getting the smell out and sorry about the tacos.

Ha ha! This happened to us when we lived in KS and we have two dogs!! They both got is bad, all over their faces. It was so gross. We did the vinegar bath. All that did was make them smell like old mayonnaise. ๐Ÿ™‚ We didn't try the tomato juice b/c my husband's lab is white and while I thought it would be cool to have a pink lab, my hubby did not agree. Sigh. I think we missed a chance to start something.

Every time my husband begs me to get a dog (which is approximately 28 times every day during waking hours), I think I will just send him to your blog. I have enough on my hands without adding these kind of shenanigans to my life.

So, thank you Seamus, for helping me bolster my argument!

Oh yeah! Me neither, until my dog Chow met up with one right outside our window. The spray went in the house. I have asthma, so I could not breathe. For the next day I had the worst headache. I couldn't go near him for a week, washed him, smell still there. Called the groomer, had his fur shaved, but only after several weeks and a bath did I put him in the car to go to the groomer.
