I had intended to let the girls wear their Chinese silks to school on Thursday.
The first day of Chinese New Year.
But it didn’t quite turn out that way.
I did, however, manage to get my rear in gear and get them outfitted on Friday.
The second day of Chinese New Year.
Why split hairs… it’s a 15 day celebration, right?
Because the girls?
Couldn’t have cared less about which day of Chinese New Year it was.
They were wearing their ‘silks’.
And they were jazzed.
They were even happy to let me snap a few pictures before the bus came.
In 5 degree weather.
Sans winter coats.
My girls are tough, I tell ya.
And wow.
Oh. so. beautiful.
I love how they positively glow when they are wearing their silks.
Filled with pride for their birth country.
And their Chinese heritage.
And, I imagine, dreaming of going back to China someday.
And we will.
Someday.

Stunning! I really LOVE the last capture. So, so sweet.
Kylee says
Wow, how incredibly beautiful your sweet girls are!
Also, I read your post earlier today about sweet vivenne but never got a chance to comment. I have a three year old little sister whom my parents just adopted from the foster care system, (along with her five-year-old sister). She has been in about 8 different homes and according to statstics shouldn't be trusting or loving us. BUT, God is bigger and she is so attached and bonded to our family. God can do anything! I am so glad that your sweet vivenne is bonding so well with your family. Sometimes those un-prompted "I love you's" are the best!

Those silks are gorgeous! It's not hard to see why your daughters love them!
Holly says
The snow makes a beautiful backdrop for their beauty!! Strangely enough, those photos together with your words make me feel weepy! I too long to take my Chinese children back to experience the wonders of China one day. But for now I wonder, will the ones left behind EVER ever EVER stop calling to me? Will I EVER one day feel my family is truly complete? I have no answers, only questions and a deep appreciation and longing for China.
Happy New Year. By the way, what in the world is a metal white rabbit?
Life with Kaishon says
They are so seriously gorgeous. Exactly! Who cares what day it was. So sweet that they were able to wear them to school. I love that they have pride in their country. And I LOVE that they have a Mama who cherishes that pride : ) and fosters it. So beautiful!
Katie says
Beautiful girls….beautiful photos! I don't think I've ever seen silks that pretty.
Kristi says
Okay. I know that you know this. But your girls are stunning. Absolutely beautiful!!!
And where on earth did you find those silks? Because they are so much more elaborate and intricate than the ones we have.
My kids don't go to school yet, but they did wear their silks to church last weekend and may again tomorrow. They just LOVE wearing them too.
Kimberlie says
I love that your girls are so proud of their birth country and heritage! My oldest son is too and he actually wore his silks for his school picture this year even though I worried he'd be teased and tried to talk him out of it. He is made fun of at school but he doesn't let it stop him. Good for you for encouraging your kids to embrace who they are!
Coffee Break Mama says
Oh, they are beautiful indeed. And they obviously do not care what day it is…their delight is radiant and shines through these sweet photos π

Their silks are gorgeous! Kate wears hers to school (a few different ones) all week. She loves it. Bu I must say none of ours are nearly this beautiful. One of the disadvantages of me NOT traveling to CHina is that Dave did not really buy the stuff I would have bought. So, I go to CHina town each year to supplement but the clothes are very poor quality compared to what he brought back from China.
Your girls look so happy in these photos:)
Daisy Dreams says

These are beautiful shots! I love the contrast of the bright color against the snow. I am participating in Sunday Snapshot for the first time today with my photo blog. I don't have any children so my photos will be mostly other events in my life. Thanks for hosting!

Beautiful!!

Love these shots!! This is the first year that I haven't dressed my kids up in their silks. I guess having a kid in the hospital with a ruptured appendix DOES give me a legit excuse. I just may have to get them out tomorrow. π My older girls refuse to wear them anymore…sniff, sniff.

I'm not sure how I ended up on your blog, but I did and it is so wonderful to see these children adopted from China in such a loving home. I live in China and weekly volunteer at an orphanage. My heart aches for these amazing kids stuck in the institution. The caretakers do the best they can with their resources and education but it is still not even close to what these precious children deserve. So, it is nice to see the lucky children who find a loving home. You're awesome!
