Sunday Snapshot: {fini flight}

My man likes a lot of things.

But he loves only a few.

First of all he loves the Lord.

He loves me.

He loves his family.

And he loves to fly.

He will be the first to tell you, he’s been infinitely blessed to be able to do something he loves for a living.

Which in turn, blesses me.

Because this guy doesn’t need to spend the weekend on the golf course for some downtime.

Or at the lake with a fishing pole.

He really, really loves to fly.

Sadly, this week brought his final flight in the military.

And, as is tradition on this ‘fini flight’, we were all standing by to watch.

Loaded down with fire extinguishers filled with water.

Aimed directly at him.

The kids just could not believe that they would actually get a chance to spray their dad with water.

In the face.

And Chris was a great sport about the ice cold festivities.

I am so glad the kids got to see their dad doing something he loves so much.

But I think what they’ll remember most, is spraying their dad with a fire extinguisher.

I’m just glad they’ll remember.

How joyful and yet sad. I hate that it was the last of something he love so much. And I must say I cannot understand that because flying is m BIGGEST fear.

How wonderful for your family to be there and to squirt him in this tradition. Hope he get to fly in other venues:)

Don’t know why I am all teared up. Maybe cause I am a married to a former military man. Maybe cause one of my boys wants to be a pilot. Maybe cause I love my family too. Either way … you captured magic in these photos. I could feel all the emotion!
Grateful for your husband’s service to our country!

What a fun day, and what a great way to celebrate Chris’ last flight. Kinda sad day for him, I’m sure but having support of his beautiful family helped immensely. I wish our kids could of seen Bryan’s submarine days! We must tour a working sub someday! Thanks for the inspiration! Truly Blessed we are! And thank Chris for us for his service to us and all Americans!

I’ve seen this with commercial pilots, except they use fire trucks & hoses. I have to say I like this version of the tradition MUCH better. It’s so great you got it on film, but it will be something your kids will never forget. Chris (& Stefanie), thank you for your service.

    So sweet.
I’m sure this is a bittersweet time for him since his military family is his “family” too. So grateful for 1) good Christian husbands, who 2) are great Christian Dads who also 3) are not only willing to serve but HAPPY to serve us and our great country. So glad our military has not just #3 but also #1 and #2!
I’m sure having a wonderful Christian Mom/wife at home has been a blessing to him in his service, too!
Thank you and him (and your whole family) for allowing us to borrow him for service.

Stef – brilliant work – you captured both the images and the feelings!

But more importantly – thanks to all of you Chris for your service directly – and to your family for their service as well – it is well and truely noted here.

Chris – there comes a time when all of us need to stand down and make room for the younger guys – and they’ll do just fine – even though I too sometimes wonder if they can steer!

Thanks – you are relieved sir.

    hugs – aus and co.

These pictures are absolutely amazing, Stef…..just fantastic……the emotion and excitement were evident. I, too, thank Chris and your family’s sacrifices for his service to our Country. I know that with the drive and ability that man has that whatever is next will be just as stellar…..and he has the perfect partner in crime right by his side to make the journey even more fun than the destination.

    Congratulations!
