Sunday Snapshot: {our Jewel}

Meet our newest little troublemaker.

Also known as Jewel.

She arrived shortly after noon.

Everyone was so excited… even the big boys who were on ‘pony watch’ – waiting for the trailer to pull into the drive.

And, at last, she was here.

Isn’t she a cutie?

She is half Welsh and half German Riding Pony.

And just three years old.

I’d hoped to find something more mature.

And, specifically, more broke.

But with our pocketbook, that just wasn’t gonna happen.

So now, mama has a project.

A 600 pound project.

I’ve broken a few ponies before. And I bought by Thoroughbred gelding as a 2 year old and was able to bring him along, too.

So I’m relatively confident.

Relative being the operative word there.

I am about 20 years older now. And a whole lot less.. ahem, in shape.

Just hoping to get her quiet enough for the kiddos to enjoy.

Not only do I want them to learn to ride a pony, but I want them to learn to care for a pony.

And for now, everyone is on board to learn.

Big time.

Just hope my back holds out.

Heck, I just hope her back holds out.

What a pretty girl! My girls would LOVE to be able to have a horse. For now, they have to get their fix when we visit Grandmama, though.

She is beautiful!!! I had a medium pony hunter as a kid that had a face like her’s.
She was a wonderful pony and I know Jewel will be too. What a wonderful gift to hive the kids. They look so excited. Love the picture of Poppy between the boards!

She’s gorgeous! I also just got back into the horse thing after 25 years (ahem) without one. I got a 2 (almost 3)year old Arab and have had her a year and am having a blast riding again!!! Spooks and all. ENJOY!!! She looks like a sweetheart! My crew of 4 from China are a bit older than yours though – youngest is now 8. BUT – you have your horse in your BACK YARD. What a treat that would be! I will enjoy watching your progress in training her with your crew in tow ๐Ÿ™‚ Congrats!

She is beautiful! I am sure the kids are going to enjoy riding her very much once she is ready! Good luck with the breaking! We are in the process to find someone who would break our Curly horse! She is so tamed and quiet I am sure it won’t take much. All the best and CONGRATS to the whole family! ๐Ÿ™‚

She seems tiny for a 3 yr old. But you can see her spirit in her eyes. So sweet. Seeing your post made me miss my horse that I had while I was growing up. We were inseparable. She was a Morab (Half morgan and half arabian). There’s something about a bond you get with a horse. It never ever leaves you. I imagine myself riding off on her when I finally pass on. I miss her so much….I believe I always will.

She’s beautiful! I was expecting an older more seasoned pony for just the reason you named, but….. you have another challenge. I she broken at all?????? Ever thought of breaking her with rodeo padding? I am about 10 years older than you are so i know what those last 20 have done to these old bones. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What a pretty girl ~ what a super-fun addition to the family! She could be a cute little pony hunter ~ how does she move? Of course, that’s probably not what you’re looking for! I hope she is easy to train and as bombproof as a three-year-old filly can be. Training ponies is so much fun ~ they are so smart, too!

You’ll get in shape fast ~ with riding and all those barn chores. I’m more than a little envious!

Have fun! What great lessons the kids will learn. And what a beautiful property you have!

    All the best,

When our older kids were young we had a couple Tennessee Walkers and a pony at Mom and Dad’s (Gma and Gpa’s) farm – but Mom and Dad got older, work schedules changed for me – and the care of the animals got to be too much for us to keep up with…but the memories! Beautiful ones of the kids learning to care for the guys – it was great stuff! Love it!!

What a beauty!! Too bad you don’t live closer. Sara M. (Football and Fried Rice) and I were just talking on Friday that you needed a horse! (were your ears burning?) HA! And our neighbors have some beauties for sale … of course they’re way up here in Iowa and are GIANT horses even relative to normal size horses. But they are gorgeous and gentle. And hey while you’re horse shopping next door you could stop over and chat adoption with my husband heehee! And yes bring your many gems in tow ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love seeing the joy on all the kids faces! I had a feeling as soon as you told the God sized story of getting the horse property that, ahem, you’d be getting a horse!

Really, it’s perfect – especially for your kids! I’m a little envious ๐Ÿ™‚ but I also know that I don’t know the first thing about horses – I’m more of a pig gal – can’t help it – locaton, location, location!
