Meet our newest little troublemaker.
Also known as Jewel.
She arrived shortly after noon.
Everyone was so excited… even the big boys who were on ‘pony watch’ – waiting for the trailer to pull into the drive.
Isn’t she a cutie?
She is half Welsh and half German Riding Pony.
And just three years old.
I’d hoped to find something more mature.
And, specifically, more broke.
But with our pocketbook, that just wasn’t gonna happen.
A 600 pound project.
I’ve broken a few ponies before. And I bought by Thoroughbred gelding as a 2 year old and was able to bring him along, too.
So I’m relatively confident.
Relative being the operative word there.
I am about 20 years older now. And a whole lot less.. ahem, in shape.
Just hoping to get her quiet enough for the kiddos to enjoy.
Not only do I want them to learn to ride a pony, but I want them to learn to care for a pony.
And for now, everyone is on board to learn.
Big time.
Heck, I just hope her back holds out.

Happy Sunday, y’all.
Oh how I remember the day when our first horse arrived (via the 4H program). I was 11 and it was so very, very exciting! Happy horse breaking days!
What a pretty girl! My girls would LOVE to be able to have a horse. For now, they have to get their fix when we visit Grandmama, though.
What a beautiful pony to go with your beautiful family.
She is beautiful!!! I had a medium pony hunter as a kid that had a face like her’s.
She was a wonderful pony and I know Jewel will be too. What a wonderful gift to hive the kids. They look so excited. Love the picture of Poppy between the boards!
She’s gorgeous! I also just got back into the horse thing after 25 years (ahem) without one. I got a 2 (almost 3)year old Arab and have had her a year and am having a blast riding again!!! Spooks and all. ENJOY!!! She looks like a sweetheart! My crew of 4 from China are a bit older than yours though – youngest is now 8. BUT – you have your horse in your BACK YARD. What a treat that would be! I will enjoy watching your progress in training her with your crew in tow ๐ Congrats!
This just makes me SMILE Stef!!! ๐
Beautiful!
Congrats on Jewel!
I am slightly jealous as I have always wanted a horse ๐
Congratulations on your new family member…
Let the fun begin!!!! Oh my A D V E N T U R E O U S mama just another title to add to your Mama resume!! Congratulations on the newest arrival!!
Let the fun begin!!!! Oh my SUPER A D V E N T U R E O U S mama is just another title to add to your Mama resume!! Congratulations on the newest arrival!!
She is beautiful! I am sure the kids are going to enjoy riding her very much once she is ready! Good luck with the breaking! We are in the process to find someone who would break our Curly horse! She is so tamed and quiet I am sure it won’t take much. All the best and CONGRATS to the whole family! ๐
She seems tiny for a 3 yr old. But you can see her spirit in her eyes. So sweet. Seeing your post made me miss my horse that I had while I was growing up. We were inseparable. She was a Morab (Half morgan and half arabian). There’s something about a bond you get with a horse. It never ever leaves you. I imagine myself riding off on her when I finally pass on. I miss her so much….I believe I always will.
She is beautiful! I can’t wait to follow along with all the new adventures y’all have with her! Congratulations!
What a beauty!!! I don’t know a thing about horses, but I know she’s a pretty girl!! Congrats to you all!
A beautiful pony! Praying for a successful breaking. (Meaning the pony, of course.) ๐
What fun! She is a beauty! can’t wait to hear more about your newest adventure!
Have fun with Jewel!
Will be a new adventure and hopefully not too painful!
Have a good week,
isa
She’s beautiful! I was expecting an older more seasoned pony for just the reason you named, but….. you have another challenge. I she broken at all?????? Ever thought of breaking her with rodeo padding? I am about 10 years older than you are so i know what those last 20 have done to these old bones. ๐
What a pretty pony! I’m sure it will be a fun learning experience for the whole crew.
And….. I’m loving the red hair!
My daughter wants to know if she can be your friend now! She loves all things horse–caring, riding, reading and learning about caring and riding. Have fun!!
Beautiful!! We just got back from the fair, & the horse barns were by far the fav. K’Tyo informed me that he wanted to bring one home. ๐ Enjoy her! (and I’m curious, what does Mr. Seamus think of her?)
giddy up!
love the pony.
how very fun!
do you pilates and your back should be great!
What a pretty girl ~ what a super-fun addition to the family! She could be a cute little pony hunter ~ how does she move? Of course, that’s probably not what you’re looking for! I hope she is easy to train and as bombproof as a three-year-old filly can be. Training ponies is so much fun ~ they are so smart, too!
You’ll get in shape fast ~ with riding and all those barn chores. I’m more than a little envious!
Have fun! What great lessons the kids will learn. And what a beautiful property you have!
All the best,
Nicole A., now in LA
Oh WOW!!! She’s a beauty!!! ๐ I have to say…I’m super duper impressed that you used to break horses….and you’re gettin’ back in the saddle. Super impressed! ๐ You go girl! ๐
She is beautiful Stef!!!!!! I grew up around horses as my grandfather raised them and now my brother and his wife have and board horses. They are magnificent creatures!!! Enjoy every minute with beautiful Jewel!!!
Congratulations! Jewel is a gorgeous pony!! My daughter rides and would love us to have our own horse too, but I don’t think anytime soon!
Boy, and people say I have my hands full with my brood of 6 kids, three dogs, three cats and 20 chickens– that is nothing compared to you! ๐
I have to say that I too am impressed. Keep it up momma! And don’t worry, she’ll probably get you back in shape super fast! ๐
How exciting for you and your family!
The horse is truly amazing and I am sure it will be a wonderful
addition to your incredible family. Enjoy!
(love the red hair!)
good luck,
Stacey
How wonderful!
Awwww…she’s so pretty. I know you are so happy to have her. Very sweet.
Beautiful pony Stef. You’re super women to take care of all that you do. Congrats on your new horse!
When our older kids were young we had a couple Tennessee Walkers and a pony at Mom and Dad’s (Gma and Gpa’s) farm – but Mom and Dad got older, work schedules changed for me – and the care of the animals got to be too much for us to keep up with…but the memories! Beautiful ones of the kids learning to care for the guys – it was great stuff! Love it!!
hugs – aus and co.
Stefanie!! I love your hair! and, it looks great in the outside shot with your new pony! How exciting! What a wonderful place to raise your childrent……whom by the way, I love following in pictures and am just so happy for you all. you are a wonderful example of being a follower of Jesus! I got one of you Olive Tee’s and have gotten all kinds of compliments on it. I’m the Kid Ministry director at our church and would love to get some for my volunteers, is there a way to get them in bulk? or maybe i just buy a couple at a time . ๐ My whole family loves to look at your pictures and they all know how you were my secret friend in the adoption process and sent all those beautiful gifts! are you on fb? I am and you can see pictures of Sally on there. She’s small and full of spirit!! very social, and loves singing along in the car with all the christian songs from the station i play. she’s a joy!!! take care, hugs, mimi
Hey Mimi!
Great to hear from you ๐
Yes, I’m on FB under Ni Hao Y’all… find me so we can be ‘friends’ and I can see pictures of that sweet Sally! Can’t believe our girls are so big now!
LOL…..you had me cracking up with the comment about whether your back or hers would give out first. It must be ’cause I can so relate! ๐ Congrats………….she is truly a Jewel!!
wow, for some reason this one made me teary eyed- what a great adventure and something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.
Wow! What a beautifiul horse! Congrats on you biggest furry new family member. Have fun!
Oh my goodness, a pony? Your own pony? That is incredible! And the name? Jewel is perfect!
Congrats!!!! So beautiful!
Love your sweet, pretty Jewel, that ADORABLE picture of Poppy G, and LOVE yo red hair. Love.
WOW…..just 3 letters that can communicate so much.
What a beauty!! Too bad you don’t live closer. Sara M. (Football and Fried Rice) and I were just talking on Friday that you needed a horse! (were your ears burning?) HA! And our neighbors have some beauties for sale … of course they’re way up here in Iowa and are GIANT horses even relative to normal size horses. But they are gorgeous and gentle. And hey while you’re horse shopping next door you could stop over and chat adoption with my husband heehee! And yes bring your many gems in tow ๐
Can’t wait to hear how things go with your new project! You’re a brave woman.
-Valerie
I love seeing the joy on all the kids faces! I had a feeling as soon as you told the God sized story of getting the horse property that, ahem, you’d be getting a horse!
Really, it’s perfect – especially for your kids! I’m a little envious ๐ but I also know that I don’t know the first thing about horses – I’m more of a pig gal – can’t help it – locaton, location, location!
I really like bacon.
Hope things go well with Jewel!
Ha! I just read Valerie’s comment. We WERE totally talking about you!! All good, I promise! I had a feeling even then (last Friday!) the horse was coming! And I knew Valerie had horses ๐
