Sunday Snapshot: {thirteen}

I missed Sunday Snapshot this week. And even though the linky expired two days ago, I’m still gonna post it.

Better late than never, right?

Because I just have to share the cuteness of my just-turned-thirteen-year-old.

In all his adorable, goofy, boyishness.

This last year has brought about some pretty big changes for him.

Homeschool.

Daniel Plan.

Buzz cut.

All, thankfully, good changes.

Just my boy going and getting all grown up on me.

Happy Birthday, Asher. We love you something fierce.

These were shot with my D90 and a 50mm 1.4. My settings for the first few images were ISO 640, f/3.2, 1/500. These were taken at about 7:30 in the evening… because I love to shoot this time of day. And I’m still trying to figure out this whole backlighting thing.

A work in progress, I am.

Happy Birthday, Asher! He has really changed do much this year, hasn’t he? He looks so happy!

My own son turned 13 last weekend, and the past year brought so many changes for him too. I feel so blessed to have the honor of watching him grow into a young man. God knew, for sure, what he was doing when he made us wait so long for him to be born. He (my son) tells us that we just weren’t ready for so much awesomeness yet. Probably true! He has handled an incredibly difficult year with such grace and maturity. Moreso than his mama, if you want to know the truth.

I love this age- right there in between boy and man. The days when he is a boy make me laugh, and the days when he is a man make me so proud.

Thanks, Heather! I love what you had to say: he days when he is a boy make me laugh, and the days when he is a man make me so proud.

Very cool!!! I need to go over there and check them out! Even though he won’t admit it, my 11-year-old is starting to be all about the clothes. ๐Ÿ™‚

What an awesome fella! All your “babies” (from this post and your end of school post) have surely grown this year. No more baby fat on that portion of your crew! Maybe Poppy and T will stay little a little longer!

I know! Everyone is getting big. The upside is that everyone is now potty trained. I will NOT miss changing diapers, that’s for sure.

    Happy Birthday, Asher!!!

Stefanie your pictures are awesome. I love the one were his head is in between the lines of the street. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Don’t they grow up so fast….my oldest is almost 13 too, and I just love this age….he still loves being with me, and being silly…but then surprises me so much with the deep conversations he can enter into now…. Ahhh….I have loved every stage….and have wanted to freeze them all….children truly are such blessings.

Happy 13, Asher! You are one cool dude ๐Ÿ™‚

Stefanie, did you do any editing to these? I might like to try those settings sometime but am curious if you did anything to the photos afterwards. What editing software do you like to use?

      Hey Sheryl ๐Ÿ™‚
I edit all my pics in Lightroom – I have LR2, an older version, but it still works great! I edited these just a little. I can’t remember what preset I used, sorry! I brightened his face in a few because of the backlighting, but not much else. If you want to try LR you can get a free 30 day trial and see what you think!

Happy Birthday to Asher. These are wonderful pictures. Could you explain what you mean by the back lighting thing? Is that as they are shot or a post editing process? Great Job!!!

Great question, April. Back lighting is when you take a picture and the light source is behind the subject, like in these pictures. It’s tricky because you have to expose the picture for the subject, not the light source. Hope this makes sense ๐Ÿ™‚
