No, David is a huge favorite with the littlest girls around here. Maybe it’s because it makes them feel so splendidly obedient in comparison to David. Or maybe they just really dig a boy that can be so incredibly naughty.
I sure hope the latter isn’t the case.
Anyway, the girls ask to read these books all the time. When Tori was here she read the entire series of David Shannon books to Tallula and Poppy almost daily.
And, eventually, the girls began “reading” themselves.
Yesterday afternoon I found both girls in Vivienne’s bed, with hair freshly coiffed by big sister Sophie. They were surrounded by their favorite stuffed animals. And David Goes to School in hand.
And, since I already had my iPhone out for pictures, I figured I’d get some video, too.
Poppy pretty much knows every word. You might not understand every word, though. Poppy replaces L’s with N’s. And some other stuff.
But the girl definitely knows her David Shannon books.
Tallula is a bit more liberal with her rendition. Some pages she simply leaves out.
She’s more of an artist, you might say.

I personally never got the appeal of the David books, although my Kdgn. kids re-read them so much that I usually bought new copies each school year. David Shannon’s book, Duck on a Bike, is a hilarious one of his that I love to read. Fun story, great illustrations – your kids will probably love it!

Ours was always Goodnight Gorilla. I can remember hearing giggles coming from our daughters room after bedtime when she was about 2 years old. She had the book in bed with her and was “reading” by nightlight!

We love “The Pigeon” books by Mo Willems, also the “Elephant and Piggy” series by the same author. The words are easily remembered, so they can be “read” by young ones, and the illustrations are simple but convey such a wide range of emotions.
My boys also both love anything that is Berenstain Bears!

If they like the “No, David!” books you should check out another one of his famous books called “A Bad Case of Stripes!” it is a favorite of mine as a teacher who has taught pre-K – 1st π It never gets old! Also the Frank Asch books: “Mooncake and Happy Birthday Moon!” they are oldies but goodies!

I am one of your “lurkers” as you call it! I have been meaning to stop by and say hello (per your previous post) and this one was the opportune time! I am a teacher and I LOVE IT that your beautiful daughters are “reading” at such a young age! I especially like it when Lula was reading and a tiny voice stated, “Good Job!” You are a truly amazing Mama and your family is precious! You are an inspiration to all! Thank you for sharing your life with all of us! Your posts make me smile daily!

Our girls are no longer toddlers, but, they both learned to read very well and absolutely LOVE reading! Their favorite things to read are the Bible and Bible literature, the Little House on the Prairie series, Love Comes Softly series, Pony Pals, American Girls, and others like these. They are homeschooled, so they get lots of reading in. They both were taught to read from a book called “Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Lessons”. It’s a fabulous process, though very different from the way they’re taught in school. Love the videos. They’re adorable princesses. π

While I am not a mother, yet, I can tell you that I used to drive my parents crazy with The Berenstain Bears! They were my FAVORITE as a kid and I would reread them multiple times. And I still love to find them, on occasion, in Barnes & Nobles and look over the stories again. In fact, I may start stocking up for when I do have kids!
