Towards the end of last summer, we took our then six-week-old chicks out on their first field trip.
It wasn’t very far which, for first-time chicken owners, was just right. From the coop, down the hill and across the drive… right into the garden. And they loved it.
So, when Juniper’s tiny brood turned six weeks, (or, er, seven weeks) we were determined to do the same.
We didn’t include any of the bigger hens in our little outing because we are still keeping the chicks separated… seems a few of the more dominant hens in the flock are not fans of Juniper and her babes. Hopes of integrating them early have been deferred until the chicks are big enough to fend for themselves.
And Junie and her chicks?
And, since there was just the three of them, the garden was no worse for the wear.
They seemed most taken with bug hunting (Jasper) and galavanting through the greenery (Camellia).
All in all their big day out was a great success.
Thanks, Jasper, for reducing the bug population by a fraction.
And Miss Millie? Well, that greenery sure looks sweet on you.
