when you can’t say no

Look what we found today at the feed store.

Or it might be more accurate to say, look who we found.

Honestly, we had absolutely no intention of buying anything that was breathing on our trip to the feed store.

And we really don’t need any more chickens.

But they were day old chicks – pullets (future hens), even. And a few were a breed we’d wanted to get when we ordered our original tiny flock.

And the kiddos that happened to accompany me that day – Sophie, Asher, Vivienne, Poppy and Lula – were all as smitten as I was with the idea of bringing a few home.

Under those conditions, there really was no chance of anyone talking any sense.

All that to say, meet Buttercup and Bluebell.

The best (and cutest) $6 solution to the tragically broody poultry problem we’ve had since our other broody hatched her eggs out 12 weeks ago.

Welcome home, little loves. I’m so glad we couldn’t say no.
