At last. And worth the wait, if I do say so myself. We were crazy busy yesterday and frankly, I wasn't able to talk Tori into gallivanting outside with me for a mini-photo shoot until this afternoon. It took me that long to twist her arm.She just makes my heart smile, this girl of mine. She has been a source of endless joy to me since she came into the world, as I cursed and thought I'd surely die from birthing, well... a baby.I was young and foolish and for some reason was in a ridiculous amount of denial about the pain of childbirth. Reality came crashing in hard and ... read more

Sunday Snapshot: Christmas Cookies
Ahhh, the Christmas cookie. I'd love to be able to call this a Christmas tradition. But it's not. It's really more of an excuse- for- mama- to- indulge- her- sweet- tooth- and- justify- it sort of a thing. With bonus points for me because the kids think I'm a stinkin' rock star for buying all those yummy candies for decorating.Oh, how easy to deceive. We start out with some basics: sugar cookie dough in a big pre-packaged hunk. Sliced, baked and ready to be annihilated decorated by a bunch of sugar crazed kiddos.Add a ton of frosting. And make faces at it if you like.Go ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: Isabelle
Ahhh, Isabelle. She was and continues to be my mystery.I feel like she and I are connected at the very soul, yet I often find myself straining to understand her.To know her.Lately, she's decided she wants to be a baby again. She sleeps with a picture of herself at 11 months, taken on her 'gotcha day', propped on her bedside table. With a pair of her baby shoes tucked neatly in her bedside drawer. At the top of her Christmas list is an Ocean Wonders Seahorse. It's for ages 0-36 months.Isabelle is 5 1/2.But we indulge her. She will be getting a baby seahorse toy this ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: the boys
First, let me just say this...The snow has descended upon us.And it's a beautiful thing. My boys thought so too. They couldn't wait to get home from our afternoon spent at a military Christmas party to don their brand new snow garb.Since I couldn't decide who to focus on for this week's Snapshot, I decided I'd just do both of them. Together. After all, together is how they are about 95% of their waking hours.Asher is 2 1/2 years older than Dalton. And their relationship wasn't always so rosy.Even though Asher is the most easy going person on the planet, Dalton is, well, ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: Jude
Jude doesn't like to be cornered. So I knew my efforts to capture him for this Sunday Snapshot post would have to be cunning.Fast.And in his own element. So I took him to the playroom. And he was happy.Jude came home at 19 months, in the summer of 2007. It took he and I about three weeks to 'bond' and that was it.We were mother and son.I positively, absolutely and completely adore him.Jude is bright. He is able to learn new things without any effort, either on my part or his. I've never intentionally 'taught' him anything, yet he knows his numbers, colors and anything ... read more
Sunday snapshot: Dalton
Ahhh Dalton. He is not easy to photograph.Sitting for the camera is not one of his favorite pastimes. And smiling? No thank you. I have to tease and trick those smiles out of him.He takes himself very seriously.Evidently, when you're almost 8, life is pretty serious. So it was a most welcomed surprise to run into "Coozie", the little-bitty, tinkling, incredibly nosy dog we met at the local park.He broke down Dalton's defenses.I like breaking down people's defenses. But when I can't, I'll gladly allow a dog to do the work for me.Look at him. He's starting to ... read more
Sunday snapshot: Sophie
Miss Sophie Lu.She is 5 going on 25.Sophie came home at 27 months old. Even then, she seemed 'grown up'.Wise beyond her years. She still is.She loves to ask questions. And one question just leads to another. Her curiosity is insatiable. As you might imagine, she absolutely adores school. Hanging out at the house is just so boring. And anytime anyone is headed out, she's ready to go. No questions asked. On the outside she's a very laid-back, easy going, compliant child. But underneath she's a bit of a wild child. We see glimpses of this at night... when she gets tired, she ... read more
Sunday snapshot: Shepherd
Last night we celebrated.Another birthday, another reason to party.Since Shepherd officially turned 3 on Wednesday, we've sorta been celebrating for a few days now... a present here, a present there. He's heard "Happy Birthday" so many times he sings it to himself now.Since today is Sunday, I thought I'd make this not only a post about Shepherd's birthday, but a Sunday snapshot post as well. About Shepherd, of course.I'm good at multi-tasking like that.Shepherd loves 'race cars'. Especially the cars from the movie Cars. Namely "Lightning McQueen".He also loves ... read more
Sunday snapshot: Asher
Asher means "happy" in Hebrew. If ever a child truly embodied his name, it would be my boy.He is happy. And he makes me happy. He loves sweets. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that I craved cherry pie filling during my entire pregnancy.I must have eaten a lot of said cherry pie filling because Asher weighed almost a pound and a half more than any of my other kiddos. And he's still big. At 10 years old, he wears a size 9 men's shoe. And size 12 jeans. His hands are almost as big as mine. And he eats more than Chris and I put together. He loves school ... read more
Sunday snapshot: Isabelle
This post isn't so much for you as it is for me.When I wrote 'thankful' the other day, it required that I look back at some of the old stuff.Stuff I'd already forgotten, it happened so long ago.Like two whole years ago.I have got to lay off the aspartame. So, without further ado, I'll be posting regular updates on my kids. Sunday Snapshot, I'll call it. Maybe with a snappy name like that, I'll remember. I'll feature one of my kiddos, ideally with a cute picture, and what's goin' on in their lives.I'd say it's for them, so they have this to look back on, but it's really ... read more
