Boy meets bike.
Boy loves bike.
To a boy and his bike, the world is suddenly just an arm’s length away.
Until boy actually tries to ride bike.
This is a lot harder than it looks.
But standing with bike is still fun.
And painless.
And looking at bike is good, too.
Because bike is so shiny. And new.
But riding bike is so much more fun.
Again.
Pedaling is over-rated.

That use to be so frustrating for me. I hope he gets the hang of it soon. That new bike can’t just be walked everywhere.
Karen says
Please get him a helmet. I would hate for something to happen to that special boy!

He hasn’t lost his grin over it which is a good sign! He’ll be using those wheel pegs in no time ๐

We got some great tips from a friend when Shaggy was learning, oh, so long ago! Take off the pedals and have him practice coasting while balancing with his feet off the ground using his core muscles. Get a running start and lift your feet and coast. With a helmet of course. It worked like a charm – he was pedaling like a pro within two weeks! I just love boys and their bikes – it’s so cute to see them discovering that stage!!!!

This is precious. LOVE! He’ll be flying on that thing in no time flat! ๐

I’ll send my 10 yr-old son down to you. He’s taught all three of his younger siblings to ride their bikes without training wheels. Where my husband and I failed, he succeeded on the first try. I am convinced he is going to run something some day (the world if he has his choice) because he’s got this way of getting others to do what he wants and to like doing it. ๐
He will be flying up and down the driveway in no time. You can see the determination in his face. He’s going to love that bike!

Take him to a small grassy hill. Have him practice riding down hill with feet off pedals. I’ve taught six of my seven to ride their bikes like that, it works! If they fall off, it doesn’t hurt, a few times down and he will be cruising in style :0)
Shasta says
Oh geez Stefanie, I apologize! Surely you’ve taught a kid or two how to ride a bike! He sure is handsome! What a lucky momma you are. I have 5 boys and there is just something really special about those boys isn’t there?
Misty says
Way too cute! I agree. Pedaling is overrated. ๐
Stephanie says
heehee. I love this. My kids are 7 and just now figured out how to ride bikes. Pedaling is truely overrated! ๐

He is such a cutie….. that smile seemed to never leave his face, even when frustrated!!
I am envious that he is outside without a jacket….. We are so in need of a few warm days!!

Just putting it out there….if you ever get tired of this one….please send him my way in NC. That grin and dimple do me in everytime I see it!
Gina says
He’s so cute!! Reminds me of my youngest- once we took the training wheels off & it was a bit harder- she was no longer interested in doing it. She tries but then remembers that it frustrates her & she goes inside.
Love your surrounding area by the way- gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!

my step daughter was the same way!! We tried to “let her figure it out”….but she just kept giving up. That’s when daddy stepped in and insisted. Suddenly the excuses were gone and she was riding and never looked back!! ๐

My husband is a pediatric OT and he teaches kids to ride bikes in about 20 minutes flat. My step daughter INSISTED she would not, could not ride her bike without training wheels. Insisted she could not would not even SIT on the bike without training wheels. She insisted this all while the hubs was taking the training wheels off her bike. Insisted while she was being put ON the bike. Insisted while she was riding the bike with daddy holding on…continued to insist while she was riding down the side walk all by herself.
When she realized that she was riding alone she stopped and turned and looked at us and said “That wasn’t me, it was God holding me up…and Daddy.”
Exactly. ๐
Wish we were closer. The hubs would have Jude riding in no time flat! My step son couldn’t WAIT to get on his bike and ride without training wheels. He was riding on his own in under 10 minutes. Although I suspect by the time I finish typing this Jude will be riding on his own!! :0)

Oh…please get that sweet boy a helmet to use EVERYtime he gets on that bike. Every year so many children have life long damage from riding without helmets…often in their own backyards. Our kids just put them on automatically and don’t consider it an option. Such a sweet lovely boy.

A few weeks ago my dad put my Chinese sister (we got her two months ago), Rae, on my biological sister, Emily’s, bike. She thought it was the neatest thing though she doesn’t ask for one herself.
