I normally try to spare y’all the crazy stuff that goes on between these two ears o’ mine.
But I just have to vent today.
What is it with me?
Why is it that when my biggest baby is coming to spend the last two weeks of the summer here, instead of vacuuming and changing sheets… things that would actually be appreciated by my sweet girl… I find myself knee-deep in ‘projects’?
And not even good projects. Things that don’t even matter. Things that she, no matter how detail oriented she might be, would never notice.
Ever.
Like the big boys’ license plate collection, now displayed on their bedroom wall.
The kids’ toy storage area, freshly organized.
The holes in the bathroom wall, spackled and painted.
The little boys’ sock drawer, sorted by color, size and type.
And, lastly, the bottom of my teeny tiny pantry. Which happened to smell more like a truck stop restroom than a kitchen storage area. But, regardless of the fact that there are fewer than 7 hours until Tori arrives, this job evidently couldn’t wait.
Thanks to some forgotten potatoes. Which leaked (I didn’t know potatoes could actually leak) onto some sprouting onions. It was a vegetable bloodbath.
Hope she notices the fresh smell emanating from the pantry, and the newly hung license plates.
And forgives everything that did not get done.
Brownies might work in this instance. Come to think of it, brownies work in every instance.
I’m off to the grocery.

Hey there ~ too funny!! I was packing for a 10 day vacation last week and decided to "clean" my 14 yr old's room right then and there. A project that took at least 5 hrs! Every drawer, corner of carpeting, top shelf of closet, etc. and I'm sure he didn't notice the nice smell now coming from his closet or under his bed either. This could have waited, really, but NOOOOO, I was still up at 1am the day before we left ….. baking brownies to take to the beach!! How mom brains work is a mystery to most but makes sense to us! LOL Can't wait to see Tori (on-line) Tell her we all said hi and miss her too ~

ahhh made me laugh– i do the same thing– i have ADD when it comes to cleaning- i start one thing with all the intentions of the world finishing it- but alas– my daughter's disorganized doll clothes drawer beckons??? really?
socks sorted by color and size? i have 3 young boys too- and woman– that IS impressive!!!!
and my weak spot is the vegetable drawer in the fridge where many a forgotten red bell pepper has been liquified over the course of months:)

This really made me laugh. Every time we have company and I'm trying frantically to get my house in some sort of order – my husband decides that he must clean the basement (or garage). Every. Time.
Enjoy your kiddos and those brownies….

I had that same smell and clean up yesterday in my pantry! Eeewwww, nasty! Who knew potatoes could leak that smelly gunk??

I'm the same way..I get a bit ADD when it comes to cleaning. You know…start swiffering under the couches and find missing marker, take marker back to Kerry's play room and that becomes an art supply organization project..throw away broken crayons and notice the little trash can needs emptied..empty into larger kitchen trash can and notice the stove top needs cleaned from when hubby fed Kerry her lunch…and on an on. Anyway, have a great visit with your oldest!

The liquid potato lesson is one you never forget! I learned mine the night we came home from our 12 night honeymoon. We had turned off the air (to save money) before we left. In July in NC. My potatoes were on the top shelf of wire shelving.
Not exactly the way we had imagined coming home as husband and wife…
The brownies will cover a multitude of things you overlooked!

You know what she will notice?……you! She will never realize what you did or didn't do, just that she is glad to be with you.
But, just in case, you can't go wrong with brownies!
