The final frontier

It was hard to get up this morning, knowing what was on tap for the day: tackling the garage… the last area of our house that we had not yet organized and/or cleaned. I had, foolishly, complained to Chris earlier in the week after trying to find something in that black hole of moving boxes, paint cans and unclaimed ‘stuff’. I even made some very weak efforts on Thursday towards trying to organize it myself, but gave up quickly and opted instead to play outside with the girls.
So, Chris had determined, today was the day. I made him a lumberjack breakfast and sent him on his way. And he did not disappoint. We have a fantastic Ikea storage solution for our garage, we just needed to clear the wreckage from our move before we could get it installed. (love how I say ‘we’ when it was really ‘he’?) By the time I got home from my 3 hour hair appointment, Chris had made a serious dent, what you see in the first picture. I decided to roll up the ol’ proverbial sleeves and help out (mainly by making sure my man was hydrated and pointing out what needed to be moved where) and before the end of the day we were done… mission complete. We have a big pile of goodies for Am Vets who will come by on Wednesday and only a few casualties made it in the trash. The boys had a great day shooting cans (and each other… on ‘accident’) with their air soft guns and riding the wagon down the hill, standing up. Sophie and Isabelle tried on every set of floaties and pool accoutrement they could find, asking every 5 minutes when we would be done so they could swim. Shepherd and Jude both took a long nap (thank You, Lord!) which made for a perfect opportunity for us to work, uninterrupted. Maybe not my dream Saturday, but it sure feels good to be able to pull the beloved Odyssey in the garage for the first time πŸ™‚

    Hi Stefanie,
Whew!! If this was the last big thing on your to-do list for your new house, you must feel so relieved! These tasks are rarely fun (although the kids do seem to enjoy them), but doesn’t it feel so good to look at the end result? I’m glad you can finally get around to a little relaxation.

Ahhh….blessed organization! How much less stressed do you feel? No, really, tell me! πŸ™‚

Having just moved shortly after you and (currently) having a garage so full of junk (also with my beloved Odyssey in the driveway) that I can hardly bear to look, I can SO relate. And, I find that I am stressed out about EVERYTHING in life because my house in in such a state of disarray!!!

You’ve inspired me! Your garage looks GREAT! Good work! Enjoy a lazy Sunday as a result! How much easier will it be to relax? UGH….I’m jealous!

Awesome job!!! I remember when we moved in July- the garage was the last to be organized here but when done, I was thrilled to pull my truck in! Your garage looks wonderful! Now you all know where everything is and THAT is a great feeling! Hope you have a great Sunday!

    Hello Stefanie!
I’m a reader from sunny Singapore… half-way around the world! Dropped by too late for the lucky draw thingy (but anyway I probably wouldn’t be able to use it ;P)
Er… I can’t quite remember how I came across your blog, maybe it was when I was surfing the net about adoption after reading Mark Schultz’s story, or reading stuff about China or something. Been following your blog for a few months already, and I’m quite touched by people like you who reach out to adopt children and give them a family life and childhood they would otherwise never have. I love reading about the everyday stuff that goes on in a family… guess its partly because mine’s kinda abnormal so its nice to have some idea of what a family can be. Yup.

I am pretty sure that Cole said to Mya ‘What’s your problem?” when she came running back in the wrong direction!! I think it is awesome that these kids will grow up in America “together’ πŸ™‚

Congrats on the move to .com πŸ™‚
And I’m just so jealous you have a garage. It’s the biggest thing I miss about living here. Oh, well, my car has heated seats so at least part of me will be warm while the car windows defrost this winter πŸ™‚
