Getting to know Lightroom

Since several of you have asked about the class I’m taking, I thought I’d share the four portraits I turned in for my most recent assignment. These were all taken very recently, obviously, as almost all of them are of Cole. It was great to have time in China to mess around with my camera and not have to worry about a small child(ren) running off, asking to be fed or having to use the potty just take pictures. Thankfully I managed to get four that I wasn’t embarrassed to submit!

Now onto the fun of post processing. In the past I haven’t used much more than a crop tool, and an occasional retouch on my zits and/or wrinkles, so the world of post processing has been an incredible discovery for me. We are just learning how to use Lightroom in my class, so these are not as good as they could be, or should be, but what fun it is to mess around with a picture that you thought you liked… and to see it turn into a picture you really like. The last picture, the one of my sister and Cole, is my all time favorite. It was taken on adoption day, in the Civil Affairs Office, as we waited for his picture to be taken for the adoption certificate. Just look at that handsome mug!
