update on the Shepster

Several of you guys have asked about Shepherd since my last post, so I thought I’d let all y’all (that just can not be correct) in on what’s going on with the little dude.

We got his blood tests back.

I swear, it seemed like they tested him for everything on the planet: lead, CBC, iron, HepB, HepC, celiac, and all sorts of other stuff I can’t remember.

It all came back totally normal. Except he is the tiniest bit anemic.

When I got the news, I realized that I’d kind of expected to hear more than that.

So I am thoroughly relieved that, so far, our little guy is just fine.

On October 16th, we will make a trip to visit the GI as well as the endocrinologist. Probably just more hurrying up to wait, but at least we’ll have him in front of a real live specialist for the very first time. And you can bet, I’ve got one heckuva list of questions.

Oh, and I weighed him yesterday and he weighed 25 pounds. That’s up 1.5 pounds since, well, ever.

Baby steps. Sometimes you have to celebrate the baby steps.

I'm so happy for an update! Here's hoping he's like my little man and is just little. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay for a pound and a half!

Adam is REALLY small too. We did hormone shots for awhile. He's at 31 pounds and his waist is the size of a 12 month old. Kinda hard to buy pants. Thank goodness for elastic adjustable pants. ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad little Sheppard is doing ok…other than being anemic!

At least the picture you posted makes it looks like he's (and you're) good at "hurry up and wait"

Thanks for the update–we've been praying for your little guy. My daughter (bio) weighed 37.5 pounds for what seemed like forever–probably a year. At five, she finally hit 40 pounds so she could go into a booster seat–a big day here. I agree with the thanks for adjustable waist pants! She's tall enough for size 6, but some of her 4T stuff still almost hangs off her waist!

Our son was like that – he was only 41 lbs entering kindergarten, but our daughter, who came home last year, is 43lbs at 3 1/2 yo. Stef, we see an endo in Boston for our daughter due to her rapid growth. If you're going there, they are fantastic! You'll be in good hands ~

Ditto the weight problem with my Lily, home at 21 months. Now 10 months later and we've only gained 3 lbs. We are a whooping 22 lbs. We celebrate the small too!!!

My little Vivi who will be 6 years old in three weeks is…29 pounds. Talk about tiny! I'd be interested in 'talking' with you, as Vivi is currently going through A LOT of medical issues, was just hospitalized, and endocrinology and the metabolic docs are now involved. Feel free to email me: celtichalo@ hotmail.com

So glad to hear you got good news regarding Shepard's tests. Since we have had Mylee home she has gotten taller, but only gained a pound as well. She eats constantly, but just does not seem to be putting on any weight. Our doctors have assured us she is fine and just going to be very petite.

    Thanks for the update,

    Mandi

I so wish I could give your cute little guy some extra weight. I have plenty to spare. I sure hope that he's just a tiny little guy and no serious health issues. I will say a prayer for your specialist visit.

BTW, thanks for the compliment regarding my new blogover. Yes, I did it, but I can't do anything nearly as cool as your rotating blog header. ๐Ÿ™‚

Absolutely celebrate the baby steps. If I didn't believe that, I would never celebrate in Lizzie's growth! Shepherd is now one pound heavier than Lizzie, so as far as I'm concerned, ya got a cute little brute there:)

Glad to hear the reports are looking good. I will continue to lift little Shep up in prayer! And a pound and 1/2!!!…that's good! I think it's the Lord's way of letting you know everything is "A-Okay!!" <><

I don't remember where Shep is from, but I would almost bet that he is a carrier of Thalassemia. E-mail me if you need more info on what tests to order, etc. Also, a person with Thal should never take iron supplements because that is the first thing doctors prescribe. Thal kids can be very small too!
