Sunday Snapshot: {G.G.}

My mother isn’t known as ‘mom’ around here. That’s my moniker now.

She’s been long promoted to grandmother status. So we call her G.G.

Or Grandma Gayle, if you want to get all technical about it.

And yes, I am aware that, at 72, she looks more like my sister than my mother.

Thank you.

My mom and I have always been extremely close. When I was little, I was her constant shadow.

That’s where I got all my grocery shopping skills. And weed-picking ability. And my eye for a plumb line.

Beyond that, my mom wasn’t able to rub off on me much. Her talents and qualities rolled off me like water off a duck’s back.

Most unfortunately for me.

She plays the piano. Enjoys ballroom dancing.

Can whip up a multi-course meal and set the table with all the spoons and forks in the proper place.

And can take a can of paint, some WD-40 and a piece of sandpaper, and makeover an entire room in a single afternoon.

She is a lover of formal attire.

Keeps all her silver polished.

And has the metabolism of a freight train.

We are so very, very different.

These differences are definitely one thing me and my kiddos adore about G.G.

When she comes to town, she’s like a breath of fresh air. A much needed breath of fresh air.

She has an infectious laugh, and loves to laugh loud and long.

She makes the kids think their antics (and newest knock knock jokes) are very, very funny.

And she spoils all of us ridiculously.

She arrives bearing gifts.

She insists on buying lots and lots of flavors of ice cream.

And I suspect has made a secret pact with my kids to never tell them ‘no’. She’s willing to do whatever crazy craft or play whatever ridiculous game her grandkidlets might request.

Ooooh, and request they do.

G.G. left yesterday.

I think I speak for all of us when I say

… detox stinks.

What a blessing to have such an amazing mom. Seems like you are following in her footsteps…but certainly God has gifted you different talents and abilities. (though…ballroom dancing would be kinda fun! I didn't get that talent either!)

Detox DOES stink. And we have a G.G. around here, too, although it stands for Great-Grandma. Not much of my mom rubbed on me either. She has boundless amounts of energy, just like my sister. I'm more… sedentary. Heh.

WOW – what a wonderful GG – and that woman is 72? I'd never believe it – much more like your sister than your mom! So glad that you can have that kind of love and joy in your life!

What a wonderful visit and a closeness you share with your mom. My mother wanted to be grandma (her name is Dale). We didn't know what my stepmonster wanted to be called (her name is Gail). Emme started to call her mom-mom which stuck and she LOVES so Gail is also GG for grandma Gail. These pictures are beautiful

Oh I love this post and the precious photos. What beautiful timing as we are enjoying having Nana in Hong Kong for Easter Break! We too share a special closeness and she could easily pass for my sister!
So glad you all were blessed with a special visit from GG.
Love & Blessings from Hong Kong,

What a great thing you have, such a close relationship with your lovely mother. You also look amazingly young so something did rub off from your mother to you!

Lovely post. Makes me a bit jealous that we don't have a GG like that…but ours are lovable in their own (often crotchety) ways.

You know what, though? I would LOVE your GG to do a guest post, a rebuttal so to speak, to yours. I bet she could tell us a billion wonderful things about you even if they're not exactly like the things you've said about her. ๐Ÿ™‚

72!? She is BEAUTIFUL!!! She looks better than me and I am no where close to 72 (or even 52). You are also beautiful and amazing. Now I see where you get it from.

Those are some great pictures. You will really value them one day.

I'm sure you've inherited alot of your energy from G.G because chasing after 9 kids certainly does require alot!

    GG…you are ONE HOT MAMA!

I see where you get your amazing smile and stellar blue eyes from!

These pictures are just fabulous. I love them all. The kids expressions are priceless and there is GG, perfectly perched amidst the whole stinkin' adorable crew!

You described my own mother to a tee…silver polisher, ballroom dancer, piano player, chef extraordinaire, ingenious makeover-er, grandkid lover and spoiler and all around amazing woman. Apparently they don't grow them like our moms anymore.

How lucky to have such a truly special woman in your life…and to be able to call her MOM!

Your Mom cannot be 72 years old. No way, no how.

I can see where you get your true beauty both inside and out! WOW.

As for detox, my Mom lives in town so the kids spend a few hours with her not days. It is weird how I envy those whose children are whisked away for a week at Grandma's and/or Grandma swoops in for a week. Still โ€ฆย my Mom can help out at almost a moment's notice and that is VERY GOOD too.

My Mom too can still run circles around me in just about every dept. domestic. I said just about every โ€ฆ
