vivi’s new beds

Well, they’re not really new.

But they’re new to Vivi.

And I think they’re so sweet.

I’ve been searching for just the right set of twin beds for Vivi’s room. Since forever last fall. We thought we’d found some at a local antique dealer, but Chris wasn’t happy with the way they fit (or didn’t fit) together.

When considering furniture for our merry crew, beautiful is great. But sturdy is essential.

So we waited. And looked.

(headboard)

I found these a few weeks ago on cr@igslist and contacted the seller about them. Even though, at $1000 for the pair, they were out of our budget.

She said that she’d be willing to take $800 for both, and although I thought they were priced fairly at that since they’re bird’s eye maple from the 30’s, I just didn’t want to spend that much.

So I waited. Again.

(footboard)

I contacted her last weekend to see if she still had them. And if she’d take $600 for the pair.

She said yes.

Chris drove down to Boston over the weekend and picked them up. And Vivi loves them.

Next hurdle will be actually get her in one of them and in her room. And out of her toddler bed in our room.

Small steps. Small steps.

Congrats on a great find & best wishes on the relocation of your toddler…I about fell over last night when our little miss decided to go to bed by herself. I didn't ask questions–I just went with it.

What pretty beds! Hope she loves to SLEEP in one of them! How do you fit all those kiddos into bedrooms….who shares a room with whom? I need some encouragement because our house now feels very small and some are getting kind of territorial about their space as we await our newest daughter.

… and now she just needs another sissy to fill the other bed!

Really pretty … love the beautiful, timeless wood.

    All the best,

They are adorable- absolutely beautiful! What a find!!

I couldn't help but notice how you were saying "beds" and "a pair"? Last I checked Vivi was only one person! Hmm, makes me think that you're thinkin things!

Just so you know… I'm thinkin things, too and I haven't even gone to Guilin yet!

    Love it!

Stef – I don't know if you really know what you got! I recognized them as birdseye long before you said that – and based on your pictures (not a lot of detail) your date is WAY off – those are turn of the century pieces – at a glance at least made between 1910 and 1920. It also looks like the original finish (the flowers were added WAY later) – and the wood looks well oiled and preserved (most birdseye has dried sooo much it's split or the planks have seperated because of drying caused shrinkage)

You hit a home run with this stuff! Did it include anything besides the beds – maybe the highboy, chest or desk and mirror?

Spectacular (and you can't tell I like old furniture can ya?)

    hugs – aus and co.

So cute and sweet, Stef!!!! Remember the auction we went to in Altus? Who can forget the amazing steals you got there? And Chris's lamps? You always sniff out the sweet deals on the gorgeous antiques. These are perfect. God is good!
