Sunday Snapshot: {citizenship}

You’d think that our kiddos would have had these for a while.

I mean, Sophie has been home for almost 5 years. And Jude almost 4.

But since I traveled without Chris to bring Sophie and Jude home, a US Certificate of Citizenship was a $400+ fee and one loooong application away.

For each kiddo.

So, I did what most folks do.

I procrastinated.

Eventually, good sense prevailed and we submitted the arm and leg items requested by the USCIS.

And whadaya know. A few weeks later, two big, fat envelopes arrived.

And envelopes packed with much more than just a Certificate of Citizenship.

There was a miniature US flag, which brought on some big smiles.

As well as some light reading that Sophie found incredibly interesting.

Good stuff. Sophie was jazzed about her CoC, and the fact that she is now, officially, a United States Citizen.

But even more, she was diggin’ the accompanying goodies.

Jude couldn’t wait to tear into his.

And… could it be?

The exact same goodies as big sis Sophie received in her envelope.

Checking out the book first.

No thanks. No pictures.

But the flag?

That’s a keeper.

So proud of my kiddos… who are both clearly thrilled to be United States Citizens.

Okay, honestly it’s all about the flags when you’re 4 and {almost} 7.

But someday they’ll understand what a big day this really is.

    I remember my sister's naturalization ceremony. My kids also got American flags with their passports since it was at the French consulate.

    Woo hoo!

    LOVE this post – an auspicious day indeed! and on MLK day, no less. MOMENTOUS! Congrats. You should definitely celebrate with red, white & blue ice cream. Or cupcakes. Or both 🙂

    I'm confused, and probably somewhat ignorant having not adopted myself, but can you explain the citizenship process with adoption? I've heard with some countries the kids are Americans as soon as they come into the country & I thought that went for China……

    You don't have to address it on the blog, nor am I looking for a long answer since I know you have little. You can email me if that would be easier.

    Thank you for your honesty. I didn't travel to China and am guilty of procrastination as well. Sue

    Congratulations! That's so exciting!

    We have pictures of when my mom became a US citizen. My brother and I went to court with her and my dad and afterward we celebrated with a cake on which were the flags of Honduras {the country from which she emigrated} and the US. It's a good memory on which to look back, and one I wish I could remember! {But that's why there are cameras, to take pictures of those moments!}

    (oops, meant to say in my comment that they got theirs in the American Embassy in France, not the French consulate). Obviously.
