Sunday Snapshot: {Halloween at our house}

A few years ago, we started a new Halloween tradition.

Out of necessity.

Chris was deployed.

And I was slightly intimidated by the idea of taking lots of little ones out.

In the dark.

And the cold.

Alone.

So we came up with a solution.

That satisfies my need for ease.

And safety.

And that satisfied the kids’ need for fun.

Costumes.

And candy.

It starts with costumes, of course.

Some of the kids wanted to make their own costumes this year.

But for the little ones, I bought some costumes that can also double as pajamas.

Love that.

Next comes the candy.

Lots and lots of candy.

The bigger boys did the hiding.

And the little ones got ready to do the finding.

Spooky music on.

Flashlights on.

Lights off.

And you can probably guess what happened next.

Lots of scrambling. And lots of squeals

It was another fun Halloween.

Made infinitely better by the fact that sweet Poppy was in the mix this year.

That girl can sniff out some candy, I tell ya.

Hope y’all have a Happy Halloween this year, too.

    I love your idea : )
Kaish has never been into trick or treating. I usually have to beg him to go : )
This year he said he wants to go. We will see,
He told me this morning he doesn’t like it because I always pick him bad costumes…
Who knew I was a bad costume picker?
The kids are so cute : )

What a fantastic idea!! We still don’t know what we’ll do Monday or where we’ll be (possibly will head over to NH, weather permitting). If all plans fall through we might need to copy your plans ๐Ÿ™‚
    Great pics!!

What an awesome idea!!!!! It may become a new tradition for my family too. Sounds like more fun than going door to door (not to mention safer)…..now to get batteries for the flashlights ๐Ÿ™‚

I **LOVE** this idea!! Granted, we don’t have as many kiddos as your family, but I’m quite upset about our town’s trick-or-treat schedule this year (Monday night, 6-8). It just doesn’t work well for those of us with little kids, who need to be in bed early for school early the next day. I’m also digging the pj/costume idea! The wheels are turning for me for next year…. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Thanks!!!

PJ costumes are a fabulous idea!!! Poppy’s pink skeleton was just too precious!!! We got over 19 inches of snow dumped on us last night so trick or treating may need some inventive substitutions such as the one y’all came up with!!!

The kids are so cute in their costumes. I LOVE the idea of PJ costumes ~ double-duty is always a good thing!! My favorite photo in this bunch though, had to be the one of Shep and Poppy… SO stink’in CUTE!!! Be still my heart! Love all your kiddos though… thanks for sharing their sweet faces with all of us!

So tonight is Halloween in China, a day earlier here. I’ve been going through a rough time lately and didn’t feel like I had it in me to do anything fun and then I saw this! SO PERFECT! Fun, simple and so doable even when you don’t think you’ve got it in you. We’re even inviting friends over to join in! Thanks again for a great idea and lifting my spirits.

I love and appreciate your maternal sense of safety and how you are able to find a creative solution so as not to compromise the fun. You are a wonderful mother, Stephanie. I marvel at how you still always manage to be lots of fun and yet still be a great mom. Thanks for sharing the great pictures!
