A few years ago, we started a new Halloween tradition.
And I was slightly intimidated by the idea of taking lots of little ones out.
And the cold.
Alone.
So we came up with a solution.
That satisfies my need for ease.
And safety.
And that satisfied the kids’ need for fun.
Costumes.
And candy.
It starts with costumes, of course.
Some of the kids wanted to make their own costumes this year.
But for the little ones, I bought some costumes that can also double as pajamas.
Love that.
Lots and lots of candy.
The bigger boys did the hiding.
And the little ones got ready to do the finding.
Flashlights on.
Lights off.
And you can probably guess what happened next.
Lots of scrambling. And lots of squeals
Made infinitely better by the fact that sweet Poppy was in the mix this year.
That girl can sniff out some candy, I tell ya.
Hope y’all have a Happy Halloween this year, too.

So stinkin’ adorable! Girl, you’ve got it down to a science! ๐ I’m totally taking notes! ๐ It still brightens my day to see Poppy smile! ๐ Love it!
I love your idea : )
Kaish has never been into trick or treating. I usually have to beg him to go : )
This year he said he wants to go. We will see,
He told me this morning he doesn’t like it because I always pick him bad costumes…
Who knew I was a bad costume picker?
The kids are so cute : )
What a fantastic idea!! We still don’t know what we’ll do Monday or where we’ll be (possibly will head over to NH, weather permitting). If all plans fall through we might need to copy your plans ๐
Great pics!!
What a great idea! Need to tuck this away in my “one day” file, for when I have kiddos of my own. ๐
Look at the face of pure EXCITEMENT AND JOY on poppy’s face in that flashlight picture! love it!
Love it.
That really is a fun and creative way to celebrate! Love your pictures and the fun they obviously had!
What an awesome idea!!!!! It may become a new tradition for my family too. Sounds like more fun than going door to door (not to mention safer)…..now to get batteries for the flashlights ๐
What a perfectly fun, and safe, way to make a tradition for your family! I think it’s a great solution! Nice work, mama. Love the photos too.. the kids look awesome!
They are so stinkin’ adorable!!!! I think this is a wonderful tradition! It looks like KitKats are a favorite!
Seriously, this idea is genius!!!!! Dang.
Huge hugs,
M
What a terrific idea! Such cuties.
Oh, they look so cute! I love the costumes, and the great way to do Halloween. ๐
Great idea! Looks like the kids scored!
so much fun!! thanks for sharing ๐ we don’t have Halloween in Portugal ๐
Great idea for rainy Halloweens. Love the photos of them all playing together!
Happy Halloween!
Alyzabeth’s Mommy
My best regards from Romania!
Love that idea! Is there anything better then listening to the squeals and giggles. OH I love it! ๐
This is brilliant idea! I love the costumes that double pjs too.
That is a great idea!
I **LOVE** this idea!! Granted, we don’t have as many kiddos as your family, but I’m quite upset about our town’s trick-or-treat schedule this year (Monday night, 6-8). It just doesn’t work well for those of us with little kids, who need to be in bed early for school early the next day. I’m also digging the pj/costume idea! The wheels are turning for me for next year…. ๐
Thanks!!!
Amy
PJ costumes are a fabulous idea!!! Poppy’s pink skeleton was just too precious!!! We got over 19 inches of snow dumped on us last night so trick or treating may need some inventive substitutions such as the one y’all came up with!!!
What a sweet little angel…really all of the kids look amazingly sweet.
What a lovely idea and the pictures are just so sweet. Looks like everyone had a great time.
What a great idea! I love that. ๐
That is SOOOOO cool AND what fun!!!
Love it Stef! They looked adorable!!!!
How fun!! What a great idea. Love it!!
Love this idea! We do the traditional door, to door trick-or-treating, but I am keeping this idea in mind for rainy Halloweens!
I love this idea, it looks like you had a blast!
Just found your blog through Sunday Snapshots. Thanks for a great link up. Love your blog and cant wait to raed on!

Well, now that I’m finally back in the blogging world, I decided to take part in your Sunday Snapshots (for the first time ever, believe it or not!?!) Anyway, it was fun, and I’ve always enjoyed checking out the other fun links.
The kids are so cute in their costumes. I LOVE the idea of PJ costumes ~ double-duty is always a good thing!! My favorite photo in this bunch though, had to be the one of Shep and Poppy… SO stink’in CUTE!!! Be still my heart! Love all your kiddos though… thanks for sharing their sweet faces with all of us!
OXO,
Tanya
So tonight is Halloween in China, a day earlier here. I’ve been going through a rough time lately and didn’t feel like I had it in me to do anything fun and then I saw this! SO PERFECT! Fun, simple and so doable even when you don’t think you’ve got it in you. We’re even inviting friends over to join in! Thanks again for a great idea and lifting my spirits.

I love and appreciate your maternal sense of safety and how you are able to find a creative solution so as not to compromise the fun. You are a wonderful mother, Stephanie. I marvel at how you still always manage to be lots of fun and yet still be a great mom. Thanks for sharing the great pictures!
What a great idea! Also love that the costumes can double as pj’s! You’re one wise mamma!
i was late in joining..was not home the weekend..next time again! happy Halloween!
