Gong Xi Fa Cai

Today is the start of Chinese New Year.

And, around these parts, that means bringing out the Chinese silks.

And celebrating our kids’ Chinese heritage.

I had every intention of trying to get everyone in their silks today.

And pictures taken.

But the sun just did not want to cooperate.

Eventually, I just quit waiting and took the girls out on the porch for some pictures.

That is, after dressing them in their new silks.

And fixing their hair.

And grabbing a few of their favorite things.

And I’m so glad I did.

We ended up having a great time, going through their special China things.

And talking about their life in China, and how they came into our family.

Tomorrow, it’ll be Jude and Shepherd’s turn.

And then Vivienne and Poppy.

Since Chinese New Year is celebrated for upwards of 2 weeks in China…

I figure I’ve still got a bit of time.

From our house to yours, Gong Xi Fa Cai!

What beautiful girls you have. Do you and your family use the infamous red envelopes? If so how do you handle the whole luck part of it? I teach early Kindergarten and we had a lesson on Chinese New Year complete with red envelopes that one of the kids had brought. I found it hard to call them Lucky Money Envelopes since God does not really ordain luck. Any insight on this would be wonderful. Can’t wait to see your other littles in their silks!

Beautiful! Where do you buy their silks from? My daughters we bought in Taipei barely fit this year (as it should since she’s now 5 1/2 and we bought it when she was 15 months!). We’ll need some new ones next year!

Such sweet, sweet girls! I too was going to ask where you got their silks! We did not think ahead and get one for every year like some people do when they are in China. I need a dress for my sweet girl for this year and am not sure where to get it from. Please share!

I am playing blog-reading catch up. Oh, how I’ve loved this CNY series! I need to do better about photo-capturing ours. You’ve inspired me. Can you share where you found the girls’ dresses? They are beyond beautiful. Oh, and a how to on their hair? Wow! Too darling. I know my little gal would love those hairstyles. I am a hair-novice!
