Beautiful photos.
Alright, I feel so stupid asking this but it’s been bugging me for a while and I’ve gone SO long without asking that I don’t know.
What is the effect with the sunlight that is being used in these photos? (The bokeh background? The way the sun blurs into a softer yellow color throughout the rest of the photo?) Is it one that you create with settings on your camera or is it something you do later in a photo editing program?
I don’t know if I’m describing it the right way but it’s definitely in these photos and it’s also a lot in Dalton’s photo in your ride hand sidebar.
Sorry if this makes no sense or is a super basic and annoying question that I should be embarrassed for asking but it’s driving me CRAZY!
I think you’re referring to the way the light is captured because of the wide aperture. Yes, the sun was reduced to sort of a hazy, yellow blur on these… most of them were shot with my aperture at 2.8 or so. The only way to get this sort of result in this setting is shooting in manual (meaning, you set the ISO, aperture and shutter speed yourself, not your camera).
It’s not a silly question, it’s a great question! And when shooting in manual, asking/reading/learning is the only way to figure out how to do new things ๐
I love the sixth one … where she has the grass in her mouth! So cute! These are all so beautiful though … what a sweetie you have!
Well, the rest of these shots are just as beautiful as the other one you shared. Just lovely.
Have a great weekend!
Oh sweet Poppy!! This little girl is so special and so very dear to my heart. I prayed so fiercely for her sweet little heart in those early days still in China when she was so afraid. It absolutely makes my heart dance to see her so at home and at peace and filled with joy. Even seeing pictures of her before you had gone to get her it was clear that she was crying out for her mama to hurry to China and bring her home. I rejoice in every smile and silly moment she has with her sisters and brothers. Poppy’s smile is a blessing and I am so happy to see it so often!!
God Bless!!!
Watching Poppy blossom has been one of the biggest joys I’ve ever been blessed with! Thanks so much for those prayers… they were answered ๐
so lovely – I need to get my kiddos out to a bare field!
Yes, you should try it!
It took me a few days of driving around at sunset to find that field, but it was worth it – hope you have one close by!
i think the one with the blade of grass in her mouth is my fav. They are all lovely!
Poppy is so photogenic. A photographer mother’s dream child! I, too, so love to see her smile.
such a cutie, love the setting sun backdrop
LOVE them all but my FAVORITE is 3rd from the bottom with the sun and the blade of grass in her mouth:)

The whole series is so lovely! Thanks for sharing it! She looks so happy to be spending some time with you…I love that the most!!! If I HAD to pick a favorite…it would be #6 or #7 (see I really can’t pick a fave!)…love them both so much!!! I hope you get some of these framed!!!
She is way beyond adorable and that little haircut is so great on her! What gorgeous summery shots!
Beautifully, done…love the softness of the sunflare. These are truly lovely!
My faves are the second one and seventh. Also love the one with the piece of grass in her mouth.
My favorite is the one with the grass in her mouth but she is just adorable in every picture.
What do you do with all these fantastic photos you take? Do you print them? photo books? Or is the blog your main memory-keeper?
I get all my pics printed out and I put them in albums… I’m old school that way ๐ Some I get blown up and put up in frames, too… I need to bite the bullet and get my blog printed up into books for the kids to enjoy!
Oh my goodness- that sun flare is so beautiful. Gorgeous backlight – These came out great
So gorgeous!
The second photo is so cute, the others are as well, but the first and second are my favorite. Your daughter is adorable and you a talented photographer!
They are all great! I love the one with the grass in her mouth and the sun coming through the trees.
Such a precious child. Of course that is true about all of them ๐

What a beautiful child.
Oh my! They are all so beautiful! Great job! But if I had to pick one, I think it would be the second to last. Something about her face and the lighting. Wonderful!
Yes, I have a favorite! It’s the one with her chewing on the weed…something I’ve always loved to do, being a country girl at heart. ๐
Oh! The one of her eating the grass! With the sun flare! Perfect!!!!
They are ALL my favorite! She is just precious!
P.S. We finally got LOA! and we just found out yesterday that our I800 was approved on Thursday! We’ll have Olivia home before you know it!
