Up at 5:30.
Breakfast done by 5:50.
Lunches packed by 6:05.
Kids on the porch by 6:10.
Camera ready, with 15 minutes before the bus was supposed to arrive.
Just one problem. The bus arrived 10 minutes early.
I was still fiddling with my settings – in the stinkin’ pitch black – and the bus pulled up.
So this is all I have to show for my kiddos’ first day of school pictures.
I completely and totally missed it.
It must be Monday.
On the bright side, the day can only get better from here, right?
Matilda Joyce says
You can always get pictures on their return!
Kelly says
Thank you for making me smile–while I am trying to be okay with having only one at home today!
Sarah says
It is an interesting prospective on the first day of school.
Life with Kaishon says
Oh no! It came ten minutes early!!!! You should have been like “Yo, bus driver, I absolutely HAVE to take these pictures so you are going to just have to wait!” ; ) Tomorrow will be better : ) Just pretend it is the first day tomorrow.
Julie says
LOL If it’s any consolation, I got first day of school pictures but we missed the bus on the first day because they were early.
NiHaoYall says
Ahaha! That’s pretty funny… I guess that is a bright side to missing pictures, at least we were out there early enough when the bus arrived π
Julie says
LOL True. Thankfully I was up and dressed so I could get her there on time without looking like a train wreck! So far they have been in school 2 weeks and: 1) we missed the bus the first day 2) she missed the bus coming home one day and… 3) we’ve already contracted our first virus. Oh how I love the beginning of the school year! Two more years and then it’s homeschooling for us! Our oldest 2 have graduated but our oldest that is still in school graduates in 2015. We have decided our youngest can go to school through 4th grade, but after that, she will be home. I wish I could do it now and I’m so thankful Asher is doing so well.
Amy Murphy says
That is EARLY!!!!! Man! You must live far from the school. So sorry you missed it. My guess is, you’re getting prepared for some awesome pics when they get off the bus!
Yvette says
CHuckling, it was a crazy Monday here too!
MG Atwood says
Oh my. another cup of coffee, and shoot them getting off the bus. Here’s to Monday turning it around for you!
Pieni lintu says
Oh I’m sorry you missed that!
You must wake up so early!!! We are so lucky to live near school (near means 200 meters), π
Jolene (Homespun Heritage) says
Not a fail…you get to have the best pics ever…after they get home!
Susan B says
Do a little sprucing up when they get off the bus and you’re good to go!…Too dark for pictures anyway, my goodness!
julie says
Love your blog – same thing happened to me – thought you’d enjoy reading my funny and similar story. (http://www.untilweseehim.blogspot.com/2012/08/first-day-of-school-and-getting-perfect.html).
Do what I did – do a “do-over” the following day…All the best to one super mom (even without your first day pic!) Julie
NiHaoYall says
Oh my goodness, your story is so much better (and worse!) than mine… what a morning you had! I had to laugh at loud at the ‘crack’ comment. Sorry!
Glad you’re on the mend π
Kim from 3 peanuts says
So sorry…you missed it!!! I almost did too. I had a Mom waiting in the driveway for Harry as I snapped away. Mine are awful.
You can get them when they come home or tomorrow:) Hope they all have a great 1st day!
kelleyn says
Don’t you wish you could have a redo! Hope you have a great school year!
Joy says
Haha. In over 23 years of parenting, I’ve had many “do-over” photos. Sometimes because of mere forgetfulness; sometimes pics were destroyed by one thing or another; one time camera was either lost or stolen with birthday pics in it! Funny, when I go back and look at those events in scrapbooks, I still remember that they are re-do’s, and I didn’t think I would. But, nobody else knows the difference. π
Wendy says
That is an insanely early bus schedule! I can’t even imagine it. I’d have to homeschool all of my kids as there is no way we’d ever make the bus. Lunches would have to be made the night before and the kids would have to sleep in their clothes. Shoot, I’d have to sleep in my clothes! Curious to know what time their school actually starts and how long their bus ride is (and do all the different grades ride the same bus). Sorry you missed the photos of their first day, but what would you have seen in the dark anyway. Plus, I think you got an awesome photo of the bus driving away! Hope you were able to get some photos when they returned home.
