Trying to carve out special time with your biggest isn’t easy.
Especially when you have 9 younger ones afoot that are usually messier and bossier. And louder.
But this summer we managed a few hours every afternoon.
About 4:00, we ice down the coffee.
Okay, it’s not really a very cerebral game.
But we do like to think we’re pretty getting our smarts on… at least for a few hours a day.
We actually laugh more than anything else.
Nothing better than making memories with your babies.
Especially when they’re almost grown.

I just found your blog and am loving it!!!!! I have a random question for you: when it came to adopting your chinese children, how did the naming process go? That’s one thing I don’t understand and have always wondered. I know that they have given Chinese names, but they also have english names like Jude and Isabelle. Do you add these names to their birth certificate, or is almost like a nickname for them?
Also, how did you decide on the names, did you wait to meet them or have a name picked out before you travelled to China?
Thank you thank you for reading this, and if you have time, for answering! I’ve always wondered these things, and have been determined to adopt since I was really young, I can’t wait! 😀

Hey Erin,
Great question. When you adopt a child from China, you can choose any name you like when you finalize your adoption. We chose to name our adopted kiddos similarly to our bio kids, and we also decided to keep our children’s Chinese names. So all of our kids have a chosen first name (a name we just like!), a family name for a middle name and our Chinese kids have their given Chinese names as a second middle name. So, for example, Vivienne’s name is Vivienne Kate ChunZhen.
Technically you must have their name decided before you travel to complete some paperwork on this end, before you get the final ‘okay’ to travel. We have always had our kiddos names picked out well before then 😉 and amazingly, each time their names fit their personalities perfectly.
Hope this answered your question!

I never heard of this game. I guess I am not smart enough : ).
We tried to play Uno a few times a week this summer. I love the interaction a game brings.
