to China for Clementine: the Great Wall

Yesterday was a roller-coaster of emotion.

Before we even headed down to breakfast, we got a phone call from our guide, Helen. Chris took the call.

Despite the fact that I was all the way across the room, I could make out a few words.

Sick.

Hospital.

Pneumonia.

Our plans for the day – to visit the Great Wall – came to a grinding halt.

IMG_0231.JPG

After several calls from our guide, each with additional bits of information, it was decided that there was nothing we could do from our hotel room (besides climbing the walls).

We were promised that we would be updated immediately with any news.

IMG_0235.JPG

The best thing to do was to go ahead with our original plans.

IMG_0236.JPG

As hesitant as I was at first, by the time we set foot on the Great Wall, I was so glad we’d decided to go.

IMG_0238.JPG

It is a spectacular sight to behold.

Sophie was pretty impressed, too.

IMG_0237.JPG

And it was on top of the Great Wall that we got the call with the much-prayed-for news that Clementine would indeed be well enough to be in our arms in Changsha on Monday.

And not in Beijing in a hospital bed.

IMG_0245.JPG

Spectacular, indeed.

Grateful for continued prayers for sweet Clementine. For her health and for her heart as she transitions from the familiar to the frighteningly unfamiliar.

Please pray for our hearts, too. That we would be completely surrendered to God’s perfect plan in bringing this precious child into our family forever. That we would love her in the way that He has loved us. Lavishly. And with abandon.

Tomorrow morning her health will be evaluated again and it will be determined if she will come here by plane (if she is able) or by high-speed train.

We won’t know until then what time we will finally hold our girl for the first time.

We just want her here, in our arms, safe and sound.

We love because He first loved us. – 1 John 4:19

Can’t wait to see her in your arms. Grateful for our time in Hebrews as I know God’s truths from that book are now deep in your heart…for such a time as this.

Stephanie we will pray healing over Clementine. My heart was very happy today when I read that she was in Changsha. We were just there and in the baby room there was a little Down syndrome sweetie that we Iaid hands on and prayed for and cried over while we were there. I prayed for that little one to find a family. I got tears reading that your daughter was in Changsha because I think it is the little one we prayed over. God listens and is defender of the fatherless and I am so happy she will have a family soon. Thanking God and praying healing.

I have been praying for your sweet girl. I may be completely wrong but it seems like maybe you are a bit unsure how it will be loving this new little one with that something extra or how she may be with you.. I’m sure all that will be washed away when you see her (as you likely know from experience) and I can almost guarantee that at some point you will ask yourself why didn’t we adopt a child with DS before? You are about to receive one of the biggest most amazing blessings of your life. :)) The love she will bring into your family is like nothing you’ve ever experienced. I can’t say enough good as we have 5 little amazing blessings with that something extra, too. Can’t wait to see pics of her with y’all!! Continued prayers for Clementine.

Praying for you all!! Both of our girls are from Hunan Province so we have been in Changsha twice. Which hotel are you staying at? We stayed at the Dolton twice but heard there were several other nice places.
