I found this doll, named Magnolia, for sale on the internet. She’s 14 inches of plush, almond eyed cuteness. As soon as I saw it I knew Sophie would love it. She adores dolls and always seems to be pushing one in her shopping cart or feeding one a pretend bottle. As soon as Magnolia arrived I unwrapped it and gave it to Sophie … it was love at first sight. She asked about her, what it said on her tag and I told her it said that Magnolia was born in China. Then I told her that she was born in China, too. She started saying “Xiao Xiao China” over and over. It was very sweet and a seemed an easy way to start discussing her birth country in a way that interested her. It’s never too early to start, right?
I love Magnolia. I have one already waiting for when we bring our daughter home. She is so soft and huggable.
What a WONDERFUL way to start that conversation… if ever I decide to go through with this adoption on my own, I am learning so much from “watching” you!
