Christmas tree hunt

My husband decided that today was the day.

The day to get our Christmas tree.

When I asked him where we were going to get said tree he replied matter-of-factly, “Down the road, at the Christmas Tree farm.”

Uh… huh? I didn’t remember seeing any tree farm down the road.

An hour later, kids bundled and ready for the Christmas tree hunt, he wasn’t completely sure he’d remembered correctly.

But there it was. Just down the road from us, in fact.

And what a sweet, little Christmas Tree farm it was.

Tiny, in fact. As in, not retail, not decorated, not elaborate. We almost missed the sign it was so weathered and unobtrusive.

Just lots of open land. And lots of big ol’ trees.

When we asked the gentleman how the trees were priced, he said, “Any tree you want is $30.”

Uh… okay!

We had our choice of either teeny tiny Chuck Brown trees, or mammoth older trees.

It was tough.

But in the end, we decided to go for the big dog.

We considered it carefully, though. We certainly don’t take chopping down a tree lightly.

We walked the entire area several times, visiting and revisiting our favorites.

Then we asked the kids for their opinion.

Thirty minutes later, we were regretting that decision.

Finally, we all agreed and Chris went at the chosen one with his trusty saw. Asher and Dalton stood by, you know, just to ‘help’ if necessary.

The littles and I ran for cover.

Getting hit by a falling Christmas Tree isn’t on my list of things to do.

So we waited.

And watched.

And giggled.

And started to get really really cold.

Then, it was time. Time to head for home.

Toasty, roasty, snuggly home.

wow, what a wonderful place you found. We normally go into the mountains for our tree but if there was a farm nearby like that we would so be there.

    Merry Christmas!

We went and cut a tree Friday afternoon–not quite as rustic and beautiful a setting as yours, though! (I love living where we do because most of my family's here, but will admit that the scenery is a bit bland.) It's currently in the stand awaiting decorating–who knows how long that will take!
