I think God wants me to read this book.
It started several weeks ago when Mom2Four left a comment on my husband’s post. She noted that she’d been watching the Radical Series over at The Church at Brook Hill’s website.
So I meandered over there one afternoon and watched the first message in the series…
wow.
Not gonna lie. It was some tough stuff. True, biblical. And not easy to hear.
Fast forward a week and my very good friend Lisa emailed me a link to the book saying she ‘thought of me’ when she saw it.
Ummmm. Okay. Kinda weird. I did just watch one of the messages in the series, it was good. But I’m not gonna buy the book.
Love you though, Lis ๐
Then, I get an email from a volunteer/friend of An Orphan’s Wish, Machell. She was mailing me some volunteer forms for AOW and wanted to know, before she sent it off, if I had read the book she was currently reading.
The book she wanted to send me.
You guessed it. Radical.
Okay God. I hear you now.
I’ll be cracking open the cover of this book verrry soon. Not gonna lie, I’m a bit nervous about what God wants me to know. And what God is going to lay on my heart.
It’s not every day that He sends a book right to my door.
Y’all ever experienced anything like this?
If so, what happened?

Taking it to China next week with me for my planeread!
Looks fantastic. Yes, I had a similar experience with Crazy Love. Ummm, yeah…moved me out of my comfy comfort zone, for sure.
Let us know what you think of it. Based on how persistent Someone was in getting it to you…I'd say I'll get right on reading it too.
watched the sermon series in a matter of days last summer. the book is on my nightstand. amazing words. my husband and i are not the same after this. we can never look at wealth or poverty the world in the same way. get ready! ๐ there's no going back now!
erika
yep, got it on my nightstand for my summer reading along with One Million Arrows. Been praying for a few weeks now since Amazon delivered it to my doorstep that it would be something I could step out and respond to rather than agree with it and put it aside.
Andrew finished it yesterday, and told me that this book is a MUST read. Rarely does he ever give a book that high of a recommendation, so I'm anxious to get started on it! ๐
Ok. I know this may sound very strange. But I think it may be YOU! First Kathy S. set us up so you could have a wonderful night with your hubby. Then I ran into you @ Walmart. I have become slightly obsessed with your blog. Then I am at a family gathering this weekend and find out your Dalton is friends with my nephew! Lastly I am having a cavity (or two) filled and the hygentist comes in and says…"you have to come meet these kids, Jude and May, they are so cute!" I was like seriously you HAVE to be kidding me…
I have now decided God sent you into my life.
Now… I just have to figure out why!

yeah… Several years ago, my oldest son started telling everyone we were going to adopt a child when he went to college. Then a couple of years later, my middle son wrote a letter to Santa asking for a sister. Then these incredible people come into our lives with 4 adopted children… and ya know what? I got the message! We're celebrating our 1 year Forever Family Day with a GIVE AWAY over at http://www.journeytojia.blogspot.com!!!
I've also watched a few radical sermons and the book is in my van so I can read it on my lunch hours in the park! Can't wait to hear what ya think!
Joy
I am always amazed by the way He gets our attention! ๐
Looks like I'll be adding it to my reading list as well!
Oh, it's a good one. Kind of Crazy-Love'ish. Not easy to hear. But good in an uncomfortable kind of way. I discovered David Platt from Katie here:http://www.amazima.org/blog.html. (**If you haven't read her blog, you must do it right now. She's AMAZING.) She recommended his radical series a while ago. I haven't quite seen Jesus in the same way since. It will be one of those books you'll kind of wish you hadn't read. But glad you did. So challenging and convicting.
I pray that God will use this book in your life as obviously He must want you to open it up and read it!
I don't think this is too off subject but wanted to share I was in Nike Outlet Store this weekend and as I was leaving saw A huge Collection basket by the door as part of a shoe recycle project Nike has been doing now for a long time(didnt know about it until this week). They collect used Nike shoes to recycle for play grounds and sports flooring..now that is Radical Enviromental thinking. I thought oh my those are so many shoes that look like they have lots of treadwear left that many homeless people or poor people could use and they are recycling them for people to walk on.. people need shoes and they are not passing them on to the needy.
I can't believe this ( ok, yes I can). I just started to read this book. I put it down to take a break and saw a new post on your blog and opened it up only to find your talking about the same book. God definitely has something He wants us to get. Amazing!

You know, I am a BIG reader. And I have been on FIRE lately. So I picked this book up. It looked great- kind of along the lines of several other amazing books I have read recently.
Well, I have never. ever. in my life read the first chapter of a book and found it so challenging that I put it down and stopped reading. I actually just moved on to another book. Not because I didn't agree- but because I found it shockingly, well…….radical. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. I'm going back to it, but I don't think I was prepared for the level of challenge it would be for me. Chapter one was so in-your-face challenging that I just had to digest it and walk away. Maybe I'll have to read it in installments, I don't know.
As soon as I finish Angie Smith's book, I'm going back to Radical……can't wait to hear what you think, but I'm with you. I'm a little scared to read it! ๐
Oh we've had stuff like this happen – clear messages from the Father….
We were 'done' with adoption 2 kids ago – perfect family, 2 boys 2 girls – lots of joy and finances were all set….we were 'there'….
Youngest daughter stopped at mom's laptop one night (we spend a lot of family time in our bedroom just chatting up the day etc before the kids are off to bed) and she found a picture of a child and said "this is my sister – we can fix her ouch and she can play with my toys"….Marie and I just looked at each other and grinned "what a sweet little girl we have…"
A couple nights later she found the same picture and said pretty much the same thing….
And a week or so later – she found the picture a third time….and got pretty insistant about the fact that this WAS her sister and that she wanted to know why she didn't live here….
Marie looked at me, and my comment was simply that she contact the agency and request the file – I'd read it – and we could decide, but (and a BIG BUT) – we hadn't even started paperwork – there was NO way that child would be available to us….
Obviously I was wrong – We traveled almost 8 months later – yes – we completed a China adoption in almost exactly 8 months….
and have been back since…..
It took me three knocks in the head to hear what He was saying – hear the message you are getting and have a good read!
hugs – aus and co.
I just finished it. It's tough but in a good way. I'm still contemplating what it means for our family and waiting for the husband to finish it. Love to hear what you think…
The book thing. Last year, I heard about Crazy Love from a couple of different people and then read a couple of blog posts about it. I was thinking about picking it up and in the mean time had to order another book for a Ladies' class I was facilitating. With that book was a copy of Crazy Love. I didn't order it. I called the company to let them know they sent me the book. They told me to keep it.
After reading it, I know it was God's work. Funny how He seems to have a sense of humor about getting these things in front of us when we need them.
Wow! I didn't know there was a book. I'll have to order it ASAP.
Oh no!! I read Crazy Love and now we are waiting any day to become foster parents. ScArY Crazy Lovin'! People think we are nuts. ๐ And sometimes I think we are too! ๐ HA!
I'm afraid to read this book! Wonder what the Lord will have to tell me!? Oh bother!
Er I don't know what He wants to tell you, but I am still receiving my holy rear kicking from the last book you recommended,so…shh.
Stephanie,
I am so sorry that I haven't sent back my Orphan's Wish slip yet. I lost your address. Could you send me an email with your address? My email kimberlywheeler@juno.com.
I have been so BUSY!! Thank you, Kim
Hi,
I started listening to the series today…I have felt this way for a long time but everyone thinks I'm crazy ๐ I was so thrilled to hear someone else talk so boldly about God, the Bible and what it truly means to be a follower of Jesus. I've only just begun listening…I see many others have already listened and read the book and said it was great. I would LOVE to hear from others how you have been changed, how your lifestyle has changed since hearing this series. How do we live in North America and live the radical life Jesus is talking about? I hope people will share the changes they made!
Thanks,
Tammy

Sounds like a really good book (:
I've always had moments when I felt God was leading me, or whispering to me…but I never had Him HOLLA at me until last November. My brother and new sister in law were looking for a house in the Chicago suburbs. Out here in Massachusetts, I started seeing the name of a town called Naperville. It was EVERYWHERE! On Christmas packages that came from Amazon.com, on PW's Facebook page, on TV, in the paper…I'm telling you, it was all over me! I finally figured "God must want me to tell Paul and Ulia about Naperville, but they're going to think I'm nuts!"
That very same week, my husband got a call from an old business partner about a job. In Chicago. Guess where we're moving in six weeks because of that phone call? Naperville! It wasn't a message for my brother – it was for US.
I can't wait to see why He's sending us all the way to the Midwest, and I'll admit I'm kinda terrified, but I'm trying not to be too much of a backseat driver on the trip and letting Him lead the way. Thanks for being a good role model on that front, Stefanie! ๐
impressive message and straight to the heart! i've been listening but did not know there was a book-
It has changed my perspective a lot!
oh yea…this has happened to me and it has knocked me on my behind lol…listen listen listen…He does speak!!!
Hey, girl! I've had a nutty week so I'm just catching up on your posts right now…so hilarious how God works! Love it! Well, you'll have to tell me what you think of it. Sending lots of love backatchya, Stef…
My husband is LOVING this Book! Our church is doing this series now. I've got to read it. We went with our youth to Brook Hills & few mths back to the "Secret Church" event that they do every year.. & it was .. once again AWESOME! I love to hear David Platt! He is a Gifted teacher of the word.. & he leaves NOTHING out!
Thanks for sharing!
Yes, actually. My book was "The Shack." My mom suggested I read it. Then a guy I went on a couple of dates with told me I should read it. Then my friend said I should read it. Then another friend. Then my mom had it on the kitchen table, so I took it . . . and read it. Figured, like you did, it was getting put in my hands (literally) for a reason!
So funny, I started following your blog because I got it from The Pioneer Woman's favorite blog's list. Then when I saw your pics I was hooked. We have also adopted a beautiful girl from China and working on another adoption of two boys from Peru. AND we go to the Church at Brook Hills! I haven't actually read his book but have lived through the sermon series ๐
