This year was a bit different than last year.
The ‘bit’ that was different?
Was that we didn’t trick or treat.
For the first time, ever.
See, Chris was supposed to go out of town and be gone all weekend.
And the thought of trick or treating, in the pitch black darkness? With seven fearless, costumed, small people?
Left me shaking in my boots.
And not a whole lot leaves me shaking in my boots.
So, weeks ago, I’d made a deal with the kids. Instead of going out for candy, we’d hunt candy, safely and snugly, at home.
Which really worked for me, for lots of reasons.
So, we got a bunch of mini-flashlights.
And a whole lotta candy.
And let the kids loose to hunt the candy we’d hidden all over the house.
In the dark.
Dressing up in costumes was a last minute decision.
Asher brought out the box o’ Halloween stuff and the kids had free rein to pick any and every combination of get up their little hearts desired.
Which made for some interesting outfits.
Another reason that staying in really worked for us this year.
Eventually, we did manage to get around to dinner.
Definitely secondary to a whole lot of candy consumption.
Homemade pizza caused a few of the kids to drop the candy.
If only momentarily.
First ever Halloween staying in?
An unqualified success.
Hope your Halloween was wonderful, and safe, too.
If you’d like to participate in Sunday Snapshot this week, just copy the code under the Snapshot button and paste it into the body of your Snapshot post where you’d like the button to be displayed.
Once you hit ‘publish’ it should show up just fine ๐

Then add your link below. And don’t worry if your number doesn’t show up. For some reason, you can’t see your own number. But it is there.
Happy Sunday, y’all!
I LOVE your idea of being "in" and it sounds like it was a great success! We had a bonfire with friends from church in our front yard tonight and handed out hot apple cider to the parents…it was fun, but I am completely "peopled-out"!
Your pics are adorable!
What a great idea!
You are so darn creative. I would have left the house with the shaking boots and hated every minute…I would never have thought about that. Funny thing about breaking from the 'norm' sometimes….those seem to be the ones that kids remember forever.
What a great idea and it looks as though it was a hit! Happy Halloween!
looks like such a fun day!!! ๐ i bet this halloween will be even more memorable than the "traditionally" celebrated ones!
In the same situation, I would have stayed in too (and I only have three currently!), but probably wouldn't have come up with the hiding candy idea. I'm going to file that one in my box of ideas for future reference.
Looks like house trick or treating was a hit! I just love the smiles on your crew!
Looks like a ton of fun. Every time I see your pictures I wonder what preset you used for that one. ๐ Clearly I am envious of your creativity. ๐
Smart woman! I would have stayed in too, and you made it look like so much fun. Look at those smiles!
Gin =)
Glad your idea was a winner!! We did the more traditional thing – and I'm betting were WAY colder than you were by the time we got in too!
Glad to see that Asher is feeling better too – got to love that wink!
hugs – aus and co.
That was a really great and creative idea!
What a great idea, Stefanie!!! Not a huge Halloween fan myself but we did go trick or treating and they ended up with an insane amount of candy!!!
I could not find the link to add a comment to todays post but I wanted to say: I LOVE your blog! You have me drolling and dreaming of more babies . . .who knows maybe there will be a future baby added trough adoption to my family. Also, my post has nothing to do with adoptions or orphans just my sons ~ I love your blog so much I wanted to play this week!
