the thing about homeschool…

We’ve got two weeks of homeschooling under our belt.

And, at y’alls suggestion, we’ve been taking it really easy to start.

Which Asher has found quite refreshing, I think.

He has run into one little downside to this homeschooling thing, though.

Seems that even when you’re feeling under the weather… you can still do your work.

The upside is that you can do it from the couch.

On your iTouch.

In some pretty cute company.

P.S. I’d love any recommendations for me to track grades and such… what do y’all use?

I’ m a teacher and you can purchase paper grade books from any teaching store and sometimes office supply stores. I have yet to find something better. For my students we use an online grade tracking program, but I always, always, always have a paper backup.

I have also used Excel as a grade book (one sheet per subject) successfully.

I have so much respect for parents who choose to home school their children – it’s not easy!

Try Homeschool Skedtrack. Free, takes a bit to set it up, but it’s pretty powerful. I haven’t even figured out all the things I can do with it yet!

I don’t keep grades yet…schoolwork, yes…a grade book, no. I will when we get into high school, but for now, the grades don’t really matter as long as I know my kids are getting it. But you may want to check to see what your state requires. Our state requires absolutely nothing…makes it pretty easy!

Grades don’t really matter much until high school, unless your state requires something more. When my boys were middle school age though I just kept a make-shift grade book on graph paper. But really, it doesn’t matter at all except to keep track of it for yourself.

    Have fun!!

HORRAY for Homeschool! We’ve been doing it a couple of years!and LOVE IT! I use a standard record log/ gradebook for my oldest, but that’s it. We do online grade reporting through our umbrella school, but I am only required to post grades 2x per year. I do not enter everything to them. Have fun!

Hey there. I have never used this co-op service, but others I know have, and they have been happy with it. It’s a place to get all things homeschool (curriculum, supplies, etc) for far less than retail. The site is:

    Have a great weekend!
    All the best,

My mother used to use Homeschool Tracker for my schooling, back in the day.
