an outtake

We’re a little non-traditional around here.

A few years ago I, once again, forgot it was ‘school picture day’. And sent someone to school with unbrushed hair, or a not-picture-worthy shirt, or some other horrendous mom-crime that we moms unwittingly commit against our kids. It was then that I decided to forgo the traditional school picture forevermore. And I determined that instead I’d take my own ‘school pictures’, my way.

I can’t say that it’s been a smashing success because, well… I’m the photographer. But I can say I’ve had fun in the process. And I’ve saved a wad o’ cash by not spending $40 per kid on a package of pictures I’ll never use beyond sending a few to my mom. (Remember when you’d get your kids school pictures, cut out the wallet sized and send them out to all your relatives? Geesh. So glad that email and blogging resolved that craziness.)

But I digress. Today I wanted to share a quick outtake from my recent session with Jude and Shepherd for their individual ‘school pictures’. I took them out together because Shepherd can’t not laugh when Jude is around. And I found all that smiling pretty contagious myself. Because my boys are just plain cute.

I’ll share more of our homegrown version of school pictures in this week’s Sunday Snapshot. Because I’m determined not to miss it again this week.

So true! I strongly dislike those fake ‘fall’ backgrounds in school pictures.. the real thing is so much more beautiful!

I stopped doing school pics a few years ago. Really I have hundreds of pics of them already. Still get the class shot. Stefanie-your shots are WAY better than the school shots.

Yes, we get the class shot, too! Those are worth the $ just to see the funny faces kids make in a situation like that 😉

I stopped doing school photos a couple of years ago too… too much money for pictures I really didn’t like. Much better to be creative and take your own and since I know you are like me, we are always constantly taking pictures of our kids… how many more do we need? And I agree… yours are way better and you have improved so much even in these last couple of months!

They certainly are cute- no doubt about that. I can’t wait to see the rest- this is a fabulous shot to be called an outtake!

We don’t do school picutes anymore! Way to expensive and to be honest I can take much better photos! Your not the only one who has sent kids to school on picture day looking less than stellar. Have a great weekend!
