Poppy: day 5

PoppyDay5-2

I know, this is late. And I only have two pictures to show for the entire day. Forgive me. A half-dozen episodes of Lost are to blame. Zach and I huddled around the laptop last night. For, ahem... a few hours. Poppy perched in my lap, surrounded by some Wasabi peas, Cup o' Noodles and milk flavored wafer cookies. Somehow, it was very, very good for all of us. Poppy continues to make small strides. She's sleeping better. She's eating a tiny bit better. She's making some efforts to play on her own, but really doesn't want to do much more than … [Read more...]

Poppy: day 4

PoppyDay4-4

Baby steps. That's the name of the game these days. Poppy slept less anxiously last night. And made an attempt to feed herself some hard boiled egg at breakfast. She didn't swallow it, but she did try to eat it. She was slightly tearful on our very-short-because-it-is-exceedingly-hot outing for the day, especially when anyone tried to look at her. Or worse, talk to her. Even Zach and our awesome guide Rebecca are on the boo-hoo list. For now. She did manage to tolerate almost an hour of skyping with her exceedingly excitable … [Read more...]

Poppy: day 3

PoppyDay3-2

I hesitate to say it out loud. But today? Was better. It didn't start out that way. But early this evening, the blessed moment arrived. She started playing with her stacking cups. It happened as I was washing some things out in the tub and had her next to me. When I, for the 379th time, gave her the stacking cups and imitated what to do with them... she actually took the cup and tentatively stacked it on the others. I tried to contain my excitement for fear of frightening her. The day wasn't all celebrating, though. We did have … [Read more...]

Poppy: day 2

PoppyDay2-4

Sweet Poppy is ours. The adoption was made final today, and this precious little one is ours forever. Y'all, she is just so very scared. So please forgive the lack of pictures, but honestly, she spent the vast majority of the day on my hip or on my lap. Otherwise, she was reduced to tears. And well, that just breaks my heart. So I'm trying my best to do everything that needs to be done, one-handed. And asking Zach to help with the rest. And me getting to take pictures of Poppy, well... it's gonna have to wait. Actually, lots of … [Read more...]

Poppy Day – the real deal

PoppyDay (1 of 22)

We arrived at Civil Affairs before Poppy, which was good. I so wanted to be there when she walked in with her nanny. But I was as nervous as a cat, watching other families being made. Witnessing the faces of children crying, coping, and falling apart. And wondering what Poppy was going to do when she realized she was here, at this strange place, to meet me. Soon, very soon, there she was. Peeking out from behind a brightly colored curtain. And she took my breath away. She walked in cautiously, beloved ball in hand. But as soon as the … [Read more...]

Poppy Day: {a quick preview}

PoppyDay

Poppy is here. And positively precious. Much to share. Many pictures to upload. But the connection is excruciatingly a bit slow... and no one wants to sit around the room waiting for the pictures to upload. It's dinner time. I did want to share at least one picture, though. And let y'all know all went really, really well. Poppy was so frightened, and tried to be such a brave little soul. And she is positively precious, isn't she? Thanks so much for keeping us in your prayers. More soon, I promise. … [Read more...]

5 hours and counting…

until we meet Miss Poppy. So grateful we got a good night's sleep last night. I think I crawled into bed at 8:00 and other than a short span around 1:30 AM, I slept until 5:30. Seriously, a huge blessing for this mama who doesn't do well without adequate snooze time. Then we got up and got cleaned up. So glad to wash my hair after a 48 hour travel day. And then onto the breakfast buffet, which was either really great, or we were really hungry. Or most likely, both. Then we perused the hotel grounds which includes, not-so-surprisingly, a beautiful garden. … [Read more...]

Zach sleeps

We are here, y'all. And so, so tired. Our flight finally took off at 8:00 this morning, a bit later than the 3:00 yesterday that was scheduled. Thankfully, it was an uneventful flight and we arrived into Hong Kong before noon. Then came the adventure of finding our way to the buses and ultimately to the Garden Hotel. But find it, we did. As well as some yummy local Chinese food. It's off to bed for us. Because tomorrow is Poppy Day. … [Read more...]
