Today was THE day… Shepherd’s last casts came off! We were all so ready, and although he didn’t know it, HE was so ready! He loved having a bath in the kitchen sink while I cooked dinner. After dinner, when his casts had gotten quite a bit softer, I was able to cut them off (much more easily than I did with Jude’s casts!) and even though he protested a bit, I managed to get them off with no tears or blood 😉
He has been wanting to take a bath with Jude for weeks now and finally, tonight he did. He looks SO little next to Jude… his legs are so tiny! As expected, his feet are very sensitive, but he’s already motoring around in his P/M brace with no problem. For the next 2 months his bracing hours are 21 hours/day and then he’ll go down to 16. At 3 months he’ll have recheck in Iowa to see how he’s progressing.
What a day!

Stef, this post literally has me in tears. Shepherd (and all your kids) are so blessed that they have you for a mommy. You are such a testimony of what true faith and trust is. I hope this reaches many people and teaches them not to fear these sweet little ones with special needs.

the photos of your house are gorgeous. i cannot believe you have lived there such a short time. some day you will have to post about how you can get so much done so quickly with all the kids in the house. i can’t even get through a sink of dishes without M throwing a fit about having to play alone!!!

Shepherd looks so happy and his feet look incredible. Yeah to no more casts!
Your house looks so beautiful. The hardwood floors really do change the whole feel of the room. Plus, they are a lot easier to clean than carpet. When we were building our house and still in a rental. All the kids got the stomach thing and the place was all carpet…gross! We scrimped and somehow, at the last minute, got together enough cash to have al hardwoods in the new house. I’ve never felt the same about carpet since ;^).

Shepard’s feet look amazing! I just can’t believe the improvement. And is that little boy handsome or what?
Kathleen says
Wow! That is amazing! He is so sweet, and what a trooper for having those on. 2 of my four brothers needed those as babies and it always pained me to see them stumbling around with those bars in between their legs. But obviously it was necessary. They were such long babies to fit inside my mom.
