Sunday Snapshot: {Halloween}
This year was a bit different than last year.The 'bit' that was different?Was that we didn't trick or treat.For the first time, ever.See, Chris was supposed to go out of town and be gone all weekend.And the thought of trick or treating, in the pitch black darkness? With seven fearless, costumed, small people? Left me shaking in my boots.And not a whole lot leaves me shaking in my boots.So, weeks ago, I'd made a deal with the kids. Instead of going out for candy, we'd hunt candy, safely and snugly, at home.Which really worked for me, for lots of reasons.So, we got a ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {sick day(s)}
We've been better.But we've been worse, too.The last two days, with our sickly selves, has afforded lots and lots of down time.Something we all really needed.Another thing that makes a sick crew feel better?Plain food.And powdered donuts make plain look pretty darn good.And a little football... played from your back and tossing the ball to yourself, because no one else wants to move.That, evidently, can make one feel better too.And a little TV never hurt. Calliou, to be exact.Even though neither of these munchkins are sick, they camped out in their PJ's all day.Nothin' ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {fall in New England}
It's fall.And we live in New England.Hence the title of this Sunday Snapshot.But as I mentioned last week, we won't be here for too much longer.When we moved here, a year and a half ago, we knew it was a two year assignment.Which means we're about six months away from our next move.Give or take a few months.So we're squeezing everything we can out of our time here.Since we've been here, there are several things we've been told we should not miss.One was eating lobster.Another was visiting the Rocky Coast.And another was driving the Kancamangus Highway in fall.We have ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {apple farm}
Long ago, we decided to make the most of being a military family.Which means doing all we can to find every fun and free thing to do within reasonable driving distance of the place we currently call "home".Since we've moved up here to New England, finding fun things to keep us busy has been a piece of cake.And right now, it's apple picking season in our neck of the woods.This year we visited a new apple farm.One a bit further south.The one we visited last year sadly had no apples this year due to a late spring freeze.We were pleased with our decision to visit ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {football}
It's Sunday. Which means it's time for a Sunday Snapshot. And this Sunday? All I've got is what I've been living for the last few weeks. Five days a week with a game thrown in on the weekend...Football.If you've been around here for long, you know I don't love the football.But I do love my boy.And he loves the football.This is Asher's second year to play. Which means it's our second year to watch.Woohooo.Even if I don't love football, I do love watching my boy do something he enjoys.Watching him learn to work with his teammates.To win gracefully.To lose gracefully.To ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {shave and a haircut}
Today's to-do list included a duty I really don't look forward to.In fact, I avoid it like the plague. For as long as I possibly can. But, eventually, the facts are too hard to ignore.My kids needed a haircut.And, by process of elimination, I'm the only man for the job.But I didn't start my 2.5-hour tour without some tools of the trade.The absolutely, positively, necessary iced coffee.The tunes.And the $19.99 clipper set I bought at TJ M@xx a few years ago... and swore I'd get my money's worth out of it.Which took me approximated one really bad haircut to ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {enter the s’more}
We've recently found a new excuse to consume additional amounts of sugar.And, at the same time, enjoy the heck out of our kiddos.Enter the s'more. A long time friend only recently introduced to our youngest family members.Our set up is nothin' fancy.Just a little fire on the back porch.Some skewers and marshmallows.And lots and lots of gooey smiles.All the kids really enjoy "s'mores night" because it's always a good time... hanging out, laughing, talking about silly stuff.Oh, and eating s'mores.The grown ups get in on the marshmallow-roasting action, too.Because some ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {twenty-one}
Yes, she is.Twenty-one.So, of course, we made a cake.And licked the beaters.And prepared all kinds of other culinary delights.All favorites of the birthday girl.Pioneer Woman's Brisket, Baby was the main course.My girl had a hankerin' for something substantial. I'm guessing she doesn't prepare a whole lot of brisket when she's away at college.And on her birthday, she knows she gets just about anything she wants.Just about.Which makes her very happy, indeed.Or is that smile in anticipation of devouring a ridiculously huge chunk of Strawberry Shortcake Cake?We'll never ... read more
Sunday Snapshot: {my girls}
The girls and I spent the afternoon in Boston. Actually, the entire clan drove to Boston.We ate lunch together and then the boys (plus Vivienne) went to Gillette Stadium to watch the Patriots practice.And then just us girls went to do one of the things that we do best.Shop. Tori, in trying to sleuth out some fun things to do this summer, had discovered an indoor/outdoor market in downtown Boston and she wanted to check it out.So check it out we did.And it was ridiculous all the things they had for sale.So, we pulled up our boot straps and determined we'd do everything ... read more
